This is my second day of having pink eye. I didn't go to the doctor because I figure it wasn't a big deal. My eye is starting to go back normal, but how long should I wait to put my contact back in? It's irritating and I have no glasses. Plus I'm going back to school tomorrow.

Usually its recommended that you not wear contact lenses for 1 week after having pink eye (conjunctivitis). Additionally, the pair of contacts you wore when you got the infection should be discarded (hopefully you wear disposables).

Ideally, people who wear contact lenses who get pink eye should see their doctor and get a prescription for a specific kind of antibiotic eye drops in case the infection is caused specific bacteria called Pseudomonas. This bacteria has an affinity for the contact lenses and can potentially cause a very severe infection in the eye.

As a contact lens wearer, you should definitely have a back-up pair of glasses if you can.

You should always have back up glasses for just this thing, pink eye can clear on its own in 7-10 days but contacts can extend that time as well as make it worse. Try to get a pair of glasses or wear an eye patch on the infected ey to aid in healing but don't put the contact back in until your eye is completely clear of the infection.

Actually you should have seen an eye doctor to be sure it is pink eye. It doesn't go away without medication. Best bet is to throw away that pair of contacts as you can keep the infection going if you put them back in your eyes. Soaking/cleaning will not kill the source of your pink eye.

You need to keep your contacts out until your eye is completely cleared up, even one day after if you can. Think of your eye the same way you'd think of your skin. If you had an infected wound, you wouldn't want to stick a plastic bag over it, you'd want to be able to clean it and let it breathe.

you should not use anything except an antibiotic in your eye till its completely cleared up. you should not use your contacts while you have pink eye as the bacteria will adhere to the contact and since teh contact is porous it will be contaminated and you will have to throw it out. call in sick. your still contagious.
