Actually Little Tokyo is quite close to Chinatown. Chinatown is just west of Union Station, while Little Tokyo is just south of it. You could walk between the two in 15 minutes or less, although it might not be that pleasant of a walk (you're passing things like the county jail). If you want to take transit, you can take the gold line to Union Station. The easiest transfer there is to the Dash D shuttle. You can also catch bus 484. Another route is to take bus 96 straight from Chinatown to Little Tokyo.

... By the way, when the gold line extension opens, Little Tokyo will be the first stop beyond Union Station on the way to East L.A.
