Yep. some dogs have dark around their eyes. Others dont. it's not like humans where it changes with lack of sleep. BUT, if your dog just developed a darker color that you've never seen before, it could be a type of bruising. Get it checked out, then, to be safe.

I think it could be a number of things, none of which is too worrisome. First, if your dog has been outside much lately, and it 's cold where you live, a dog can get this dark ring around his eyes as a protection against the cold. It normally goes away in time. The skin wrinkles slightly to provide more surface to ward off cold.
Another time a dog can develop darkness around the eyes is if there is a deficiency in the diet. Ask your vet about it and see if what's missing can be found. We humans sometimes develop similar reactions to nutritional deficiencies.
These two are among reasons for dark around the eyes of a dog. There must be others, including not resting well, sleeping. Something might be causing that, such as illness or injuries that you could check out. Maybe he or she's just dreaming about the dreamboat dog down the street, and not getting good rest. Know my dog dreamed a lot at times, chasing possums, running in this sleep. 'Bout wore him out at times, I think.

i'm not exactly a dog expert, but maybe you should take it to the vet if the dark is still there in another week or so.
