I've downloaded the codec, why doesn't it work?

I am trying to import my video from my Sony Handycam MPEG
into Windows Movie Maker. I kept getting a window telling me I needed to download a codec, so I did, but I still keep getting the same screen . Why isn't the codec work? does it need to be configured?
The codec is ffdshow

Try downloading latest codecs from microsoft such as WM9Codecs.exe

what kind codec did you download? try klite codec pack 282f full free from the web side !!!!
