My Dobie pup has had some eye irritation of late. It has been diagnosed as entropian. Two vets have looked at her and suggested we consider having the condition rectified surgically when she is full grown as it may correct itself as she grows.
I have read quite a bit on the interenet regarding the condition but I would like some input from some dog owners...
a) does anyone have a dog with entropian?
b) did they outgrow it?
c) or did you have the surgery and how did it turn out?

I thought I had done my research -the parents had been genetically tested for von willebrand, displaysia and hypothyroidism. I did not see anything about the eyes - ugh.
However she is not being bred - she was spayed today and is sleeping like a baby right now.

I have had 2 dog with it over the years. One dog outgrew it. It was a very mild case to begin with. The other had surgery. It went well and was totally resolved.
Which ever outcome, the dog should NOT be used for breeding, as it is a heredity condition.

Breeders do not always foot the bill on this. Check with yours and see.

I guess Dobies are supposed to be CERF cleared. You may have a leg to stand on with the breeder. Hopefully, you could get some help if surgery is required.

Hi, my dog had severe entropion issues. We did 5 different eye tackings (where they stitch the eye lids back and the stitches stay in for about 2 weeks) and those did not hold, so we had to do the laser entropion surgery which costed about $700 but it's different depending on what area you live in.

If it's not taken care of right away your dog will grow ulcers on his eyes and could cause permanent damage/blindness.

The surgery turned out decent, but my dog is a shar-pei and they have this problem much more than other dogs.

How old is your dog??? and if it's under 6 months you should find out about eye tacking...it's much less expensive and sometimes the eyes can be fixed with just one tacking. Good luck!

I had a female blue pit that had the condition, It is very painful for them so I wouldn;t wait too long to see if it will clear up.
I opted for the surgery and the dog had absolutely no problems during or after and recovered fully very quick.
I'd have it done if I were you. And please don't breed your dog because this is a genetic condition.
Good luck !

when i was growing up my mother had a Chow with the problem and we had surgery and it turned out fine the breed does not have to pay for this. please do what the vets suggest. the dog will feel better in the long run and i do not think it will be past on to puppies.

it style of feels the vet has each little thing lined to maintain your pup mushy. His eyes will look large after the surgical treatment offering the vet does an excellent interest. considered one of my rescue Rottweilers had entopion surgical treatment and he or she grow to be large. She did no longer positioned on a cone and did no longer intervene with the attention.

vets know best,,, but your breeder should be able to give alot of information... a reputable breeder would also be willing to foot the bill on this one... hope you did your homework before you purchased
