My niece has gone through the same thing and shes 18 now and away at college. She comes home every weekend and he still hassles her. She was never allowed to go out on dates or anything. Good thing my moms let her though. Its just something that most dads do. They are afraid of letting go of their precious daughters. They feel that once they are gone, they are gone from them forever. Trying to tell her dad that you wont do anything wrong wont make anything better. They just dont listen. Just make sure he can keep his trust with you. Talk with your mom, if your able too. Have the guy come over if possible and have a few dates at home with him. That way your dad can get to know him better. Hopefully your dad will get over this stump hes put himself into. I hope you get things figured out. I wish ya the best!

"i am 16 years old, i can do so many things, i can move out, get married, drive, smoke. why why why why why?"
these thoughts are what makes parents say no and say and do the kinds of things they do to you.
he knows your not mature enought, you may say nothing will happen but after a while you'll be like...... oops i just had sex... you know. Like i think it depends on the type of person you are. I think that if ur 16 but mature then yes he should let you. But mot 16 yrs aren't, for now you should worry about school. If u and this guy have a real thing you will have you small thing and as time passes your dad will say "oh... its been one or 2 or 3 years since they have been friends, maybe i will give her a chance" but worse thing you can do is go behind his back, it will hurt him and make him lose trust, which means no B/Fs till he regains your trust, (which isn't an easy way to regain). why he does it? b/c he loves you and is protecting you whether u like it or not.

first off all you may think you can do many thing but unfortunately when you leave the comforts of you home you realize how good you really had it.. I would wait for some time to go buy let your dad get over it and then talk to him like two adults not like a little girl whom wants her way. I don't think he is mad at the fact that you have a boyfriend but at the fact that you did it behind his back, now he is think what other things you have or can do behind his back.. You need to remember you are your dad's little girl no matter how old you are he will always see you as the baby you once where. now if this boy cares for you as much as you do him me will also wait for your punishment to end and hopefully by them you and your dad have talked it all over. remember there will be many boys but you only have "1 dad" in your life...

Well, your father is only trying to look out for your best interests, in that clumsy, heavyhanded way some parents tend to.
He knows how guys think when they're at that age and he automatically deduces; "rape or unwanted pregnancies" as the only possible outcome.
It's probably got nothing to do with you, but more with the fact he knows that younger men have a tendency to be easily swayed by their hormones, no matter how good their intentions are.
He's probably just trying to awkwardly express a desire for you to wait a little and enjoy being young and his fears that you'll get into something he knows will spin out of control without his supervision.
Of course, he could also be a hateful, spiteful old wretch, but I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, seeing how I don't know anything more than what you've said.

Good for your dad to lay down some ground rules, he is merely trying to protect you. You should try to sit down and talk to him rationally. Ask him if he would like to meet your friend before he passes any judgment. If you are 16 and the boy is 17, and is more than 12 months apart, your dad is correct with the results not being good. This boy could be charged with several things, carinal knowledge of a juvenile or statutory rape, either one leaving him as a known sex offender for the remainer of his life. Please heed your dad's advice until you can be given his permission. Hang in there, things will get better. Your dad is probably in shock and is very angry that he "found" out the way he did. Give him a day or two and ask if you can talk to him without him flipping out or getting angry. Ask him to see your side of things and at least consider it. Good Luck.

This doesn't sound appealing, but stick with me for a minute. Try to understand where your dad is coming from. Yea I know his actions seem completely irrational to you. But, think about it. He is a guy, which means that he knows what guys are capable of. He has been around the block, and knows about all of the terrible things that could happen to you, and theyre always in the back of his mind. Instead of being upset with him when you discuss this, try approaching the situation by saying something along the lines of ... dad, you have done a really good job raising me. You taught me right from wrong, and instilled moral values in me that are always going to stick with me. I feel hurt that you don't trust me to have a boyfriend. I know you may think that I am too young. You can have that opinion. But, I really want to try this. Tell him that you would like him to meet the guy. Tell him you really need him to trust you.

I'm 17, san diego. Had a few girfriends since i was 16. A couple things:
1. Trust me: Life is more fun single
2. you are not going to marry this kid
3. Your dad is only trying to protect you
Most importantly, what you need to do is sit down and act like an adult if you want to be treated as an adult. Sit him down, let him know that you want to talk about it, that you feel it is unfair, and that you propose the idea that you will be moving out soon, and that you no longer are a kid, you are a young adult who can protect herself.

Calm down sweety, my parents wouldn't let me see my boyfriend of 3 years and it really upset me. I would try to talk to your dad and see exactly why he doesn't want you to have a boyfriend. If it has anything to deal with school then you should prove to him that you can have a boyfriend and also get good grades. Of course dads will be dads overprotective. I wish I could tell you otherwise but just talk to him about it and let him know that you really care about this guy and you would like him to sit and tell you why you can't have one. I hope you work this out kay? good luck

Part of living under someone else's roof, is having to abide by their rules. I know it's crummy feeling right now but have you talked to your father about why he feels this way re: you having a boyfriend? If you have and he's adamantly against it, then you'll need to wait until he's okay with it or until you move out on your own and can do as you choose.
Sorry he's having an issue with it...fathers can be over-protective where their daughters are concerned.

It's because in his eyes your his little girl, no matter how old you are. He doesn't want another guy to come and take you away from him. It's just the way most fathers are. Over-protective.
I say what daddy doesn't know, wont hurt him.
Explain to your boyfriend. Tell your dad that your hanging out with your girls. It's not your fault he "mysteriously" shows up.
