You can buy a Dual Layer DVD. It has about 8.5 GB, so putting 4 hours of a high quality movie should be possible.

You could get 6 hours with higher compression, but unless it is a throw away (watch once) video, not recommended.

However, make sure that your recorder does support Dual-layer blank DVDs

The amount of hours on a DVD is irrelevant. It has to do with the amount of storage. Most DVD recorders will only store up to 2 hours because the audio and video quality are usually static settings. If you are on a computer, you could store more than 2 hours of video, if the video and audio compression is high.

Actually the ones that are 2 hours can be set for up to 6 hours of record time.. you just have to change the recording speed... and then it will automatically set the new time... I am not positive but I think it would be SLP.. SP is 2 hours... LP is 4 hours and SLP is up to 6 hours.. You can do the same thing with VHS recording....
