I just got my first pair of reading glasses. Will wearing them make my vision worse and worse? Should I try to wear them as little as possible?

I was wondering that myself. Perscriptions change so it's hard to tell if my vision keeps getting slightly worse every couple years because that is what it is just going to do until it stabalizes (usually around the age of 25) or if wearing the glasses is allowing your eyes to become more and more lazy. Now, I need glasses all day so for me that is not the case, my eyes are just bad anyway. I do know that when I wear a perscription that is lower than mine my eyes work harder and the muscles get tired which may actually cause further damage. I have no experience with your situation though. Your eye condition is probably pretty stable and won't be changing unless something in your eyes physically deteriorates. And taking into account what I said about muscles working too hard, it's probably better for you to wear the glasses when you need them. If you're really worried, eat more carrots :) They can help with vision.

Well when I first got glasses I was only supposed to wear them to see the chalkboard and far away things like signs. So when I was reading a book or looking at something close I was supposed to take them off. That of course got annoying so I decided to just leave them on. My vision did start to get worse from there on out but not so much that I couldn't see out of my prescription within a month of getting them. That would be unethical. Anyway my mom recently took me to the eye doctor to get contact lenses and she was trying to say that I made my eyes worse by always wearing my glasses, and he said that is not true. He said that it doesn't matter how long you wear the glasses, your eye sight is just declining because that is the way they are. At the time I was right around third or forth grade and I was growing continuously. eyesight may change like the rest of your body does. It just depends but as far as my doctor told me, your eyesight can't get worse from wearing glasses all the time,

It really depends. If you think of glasses like using crutches, if you use crutches because your ankle hurts and you use them all the time, your muscles don't get used and eventually you get weaker on that side, and that is the same with your eyeballs. I have heard that there are exercises you can do to make your eyes better, but I haven't looked fully into it, and I don't know about reading glasses.

I really hope not because I have been wearing glasses for about 2 years and I cant tell if it is worse or better. So.... lets hope that it isnt true.

i don't know if there is any studies done to support that it does bu my brother who is younger than me had to get glasses I'll say five years ago.he has had to change the lenses every year since then.now for my point i put on his first pair of glasses when he got them and could see things with such clarity i almost got glasses myself.but i didn't and my sight has not changed.so i would say if you get headaches while reading were them only while you read.

Unfortunately, yes. You need to know the truth. When you eyes start needing assistance, they are already on the down-slope. There is no known method on reversing this.
Glasses only help you to adjust to this. It doesn't fix them.

THEY ARE READING GLASSES. WEAR THEM WHEN YOU ARE READING ONLY.
