I have the same problem. If you tend to pass out, tell the person doing the blood test that you'd like to lie down. Have a friend to hold your hand or distract you or whatnot. Have something with sugar in it like apple juice (natural fruit juice is best) for before and afterward as that usually helps with dizziness.

Other things could be to count backwards from 30 or say the 9 times tables. Also talk to the person doing it before hand, they may know some tips as well.

With a blood test, once the needle is out and the thing is in your arm, you barely feel it, just don't look at the tube your blood is going through. That's when I passed out the last time. When it comes back out it feels strange, but you feel relief so it is nice.

Hope this helps! :-) Good luck. And don't forget to make lots of plans that day for afterward, even if it is going home to play your favourite game. Sometimes it helps to look past the impending dread at something you actually want to do.

Try deep breaths, but there is no guarantee that will work. Just remember it will be over in a couple second when the time comes. But if this is a large fear, things may not turn out well. My brother and I are like you too, afraid of needles, and also of seeing blood, so my brother once got blood work done, and he fainted imediatly after that. Just remember that this will turn out better in the end if you stay calm, slow, deep breaths, and when it comes time for the test, think of something pleasant, if it helps, don't look, i always find it feels more painful when you see the needle coming.

I can relate. Not needles but the dentist. Try to look away, not think about it, etc. You can't not go. If is really that problematic, have a reputable MD give you just enough anti-anxiety medication for that day. That is how I go the Dentist right now, hopefully not forever. That is what those meds are for (you know, not loving the med too much) If you think this might be the best thing for you then you have to plan ahead. They will not give meds to you there just because you ask. (that would be way too easy for addicts) I am sure someone is thinking "how pathetic, blah, blah" But you cannot let your teeth fall out, let your self die, etc waiting for the time when this will feel better. That would be pathetic. Hopefully this will eventually be easy, but letting everything fall apart until then is not the answer.

HAVE NO FEAR!!! Ask them to use what is called a butterfly needle. It doesn't go completely in the arm, but it's the least painful needle! I have a serious needle phobia as well, but these ones really don't have an effect on me anymore! It's a quick pinch and that's it! They collect your blood and you are on your way!

What's to be scared of? It's not going to harm you in any way, sure it might hurt, but that's only for a few seconds and then it's done.

I like needles. I donate blood every 12 weeks and you should see the needles they use for that! Fricken huge!

I, too, used to have an intense fear of needles when I was young. When the day comes, just breathe deep, relax, DON'T look at the needle, and remind yourself that it'll all be over in a few moments!

Yeah, I go through the same thing everytime. I close my eyes, breathe very deeply and slowly and try to think of something else. Works MOST of the time.

Do not look. Don't look at the needle...don;t look at your arm. Breath normal...don;t hold your breath. And if you pass out believe me you wouldn't be the 1st.

dont look at it and try to think about something else. Needles really dont hurt at all. ITs just like a little pin prick.
