I noticed that she's spotting, which is normal. She's my first female dog and I'd like to know what everybody else has done to keep the indoor, non crate trained, female not leaving a trail behind her.

My German Shepherd isn't crate trained either. When she is in heat, I mind her very closely; it is the only time I walk her on the property using a leash. With regards to the spotting, I have never tried the diapers as I figure they'll find a way to get them off anyhow. I usually just clean up behind her. Her second heat was much better as she was more aware of herself and became more active in keeping herself clean. I put old blankets on the couch where she spends much of her time when I am at work, it helped a lot. Spotting on carpets comes out easily, just dab it with an old, wet rag.

You have 3 options! 1] they have doggie diapers you can get for the spotting, if it's real bad, 2] Whatever you do, if you don't want puppies, is to keep her far away from males 3] Getting her spayed, would eliminate alot of problems.

you need to crate train her any way. it may take a while but it can be done. there are things that are called pettie pants for female dogs. check with pet stores in your area. as soon as she is out of season get her spayed if you are not going to breed her

You can buy Puppy Panties at many Petsmart type stores, along with smaller specialty pet food shops. Follw the directions and keep them on her until she's through this. Call today and set up a spay appointment for her so that you won't have to go through this again.

Go to the pet store, and get a sanitary diaper. They are usually fabric, and can either be washed, or have napkin inserts, like women's maxi pads.

They make panties for that. You put sanitary pads in them and they work great.
