I used to gather the eggs daily. Chickens tend to not lay much in the winter which really is a good rest period since it takes a lot of energy and nutrients to lay eggs. I do agree about the eggs in stores these days. It has been well documented that 1 out of every 3 chickens bought in the store are contaminated with salmonella. That's why there is so much stress on thorough cooking these days. I've bought a rotten egg or two from the store. Commercial chickens are really inhumanely treated. Their conditions are filthy. Even the workers will tell you what really goes on. Eggs should be fine 24 hours outside, but to be on the safe side, since they are not fertile just harvest them once or twice a day. Have a great year.If I could, I would definitely buy eggs from you.

Fresh eggs should be picked at least twice a day and immediately put into a refridgerator to help keep them fresh and edible.
They can't be left in the heat for too long, and the shorter the time the better.
We have a flock of free roaming chickens, and they lay some pretty big eggs that are delicious.
Good luck.

They will be good until the next time you go out and collect them and pop them in the fridge. Just remember the longer they are will the hen the more developed inside they become, especially when the hen becomes broody and sits. Hens will usually lay between 8 and 12 eggs before they sit on then to hatch them out. About half of them will hatch.

If you gather eggs 2x per day in the summer, it would be safe to eat the eggs. If you could go out in the morning and in the afternoon/evening that would be fine. See these websites for more advice on raising birds.

A rooster lays egg clearly. this is the chook equivalent of you ovulating. You produce eggs with out having hormones or sexual intercourse. The hens have had no touch with a male, so their eggs are sterile and could on no account hatch. if that they have been fertilised the yolk may be the placenta feeding the embryo. Very nutritious and a good source of protein.

I collect the eggs from our hens twice per day. Once in the am when I feed and turn them out and once in the evening when I put them in for the night.
