my chihuahua is six years old. scab like skin forms over dry spots which collect the hair into clumps. these clumps then fall out when the skin is removed. although his hair falls out when his skin is peeled off it grows back. the dry spots can become raw. but there is no itching and scratching.

Any skin complaint that becomes raw needs to be checked out by a vet - it could be anything from a fungal infection to a form of skin cancer, if a secondary infection occurs it will be a real night mare for your dog and very costly for you.

it definitely sounds like mange. it could be an allergic reaction to a new food or something like that, of course a vet visit is the best thing for that kind of thing, it will need treatment.

sounds like it could be mange. Are the spots kinda pink? U should take him to the vet to get dipped a few times. It's not that expensive.
