Ahh, the good old days.... I had my septum done once upon a time (to give an idea of when, it cost me $20 and INCLUDED jewelry, so my memory might be a bit fuzzy).
If my memory serves me right, though, eyes watered like a S.O.B. for a while, and then after a day or so, the itching started... maybe not a big deal for most people, but I'm a nail-biter, it drove me nuts. It healed pretty quick though, it's just that I kept taking my retainer out in my sleep somehow and lost it one night... by the time I found it, there was no way I could put it back in... and it cost way too much for a poor person I was at the time to have it repierced... pricing's ridiculous nowdays... sometimes I miss it still, but if I had the money to get my septum redone, I also have better things to spend that money on now.

I have one and love it.
It hurt about as bad as a lobe piercing because when you pinch your septum, you'll feel a soft area of tissue and that is where the piercing should be places.
Rather painless and only a little sting when the jewelry went it.
Healing was very, very quick and easy. Took about 2 months to heal (average healing time is 3-6 months) and I never had any issues or pains (sore the first day, that was it). Just go to a good piercer, keep it clean and you'll be find.
Good luck.

The septum was definitely the easiest piercing I've gotten as far as pain and aftercare. The only problem I had with it was my eyes watered ridiculously. I was able to change the retainer within a month.

I got my left nostril done. My navel too. And got a tattoo. They all hurt to varying degrees but the septum??? OOOOOOHHHH I bet that wicked hurts!!!!
According to my piercing/tattoo shop's website, the septum takes 4-6 months to heal completely.

it hardly hurt at all to get done. i actually asked if he had done it because i didn't really feel much! just a slightly pinch.
it was a bit tender for a few weeks after, and probably a few months before it could be considered fully healed.
