This isn't really an answer, but more of a reply to "Valley Girl":
You don't have to look at my "jumbalia"... If you don't like it, don't look at me. Or anyone else with tattoos for that matter. You know, tattoos ARE an art form, the most beautiful form if you ask me. Tattoos aren't dispayed for you, they are displayed because those of us who have them are proud of them. My image is of a strong willed, independent mother... Nothing, no matter how many tattoos or peircings is going to change that. I would rather do what i want and look "disgusting" than be a conforming sheep. Have fun knowing that you are exactly like everyone else.

I have to laugh at "you'll never see an accountant with a tattoo". Oh Mika, dear woman... are you around anywhere? Someone needs you to smack them with a clue by four. It's off tax-season, so I'm hoping you have the time. I also found out accidentally that my accountant has a tattoo - a little anklet, rather dainty & not easily visible. I only saw it because I dropped my folder of tax deductible donation receipts last tax season. She wasn't hiding it, she just wasn't advertising it. Personally I think it's wrong to assume they'll never be accepted. It may be an asymptotic relationship as with other social changes - there are still people who think "a woman's place is in the home", for example. However, how many people bat an eyelash at a guy with long hair nowadays? Women in CEO positions? Non-caucasian congress critters? Okay, some do, but they'll be dead in ten years... I don't believe in catering to the lowest common denominator. That way lies the slippery slope and regressive social change.

I totally agree. It's pretty amazing what some tattoo artists can do. I'm personally a big GOOD realism and portrait fan just because it's neat to see and compare it to real life. Getting a custom tattoo in 2 days! I don't like it when people get a tattoo to look cool though... I do think it's awesome when people ink something meaningful to them and they shouldn't care whether others like it or not. I don't like it when people tattoo something just to get a tattoo...
I think that it's closed minded when people insult other individuals with tattoos because it's basically an excused form of prejudice and people can make rude comments and remarks and it's accepted. Also, classiness is not defined by whether you have a tattoo...look at some of the comments you have on this question...brings some of them down a notch in terms of class...they don't seem to have a clear meaning of the word. :)

I don't have any tattoos but I do think they are interesting. Did you know that Otzi the famous bronze age Alpine ice mummy had several tattoos?
A lot of my friends have tattoos but several of the ones who don't are very against them.
I think most people prefer to judge from a position of ignorance, this is true of most things in life not just tattoos.

I think people only start judging when they believe people are doing it as a fashion statement. There are people out there that obviously do have tattoos as a form of artistic expression, but then there are many you also have tattoos because it is fashionable. For example, I have come across people on here who ask "what tattoo they should get"!! If they were doing it purely for artistic expression then surely they would not need to ask what tattoo they should get because they would be able to choose themselves. I believe there are people who get tattoos purely because they think it is cool!! You shouldn't get a tattoo because you think it is cool to have one! You should get one because you want one, unrelated to whether it is cool!!

I think people will always judge things they don't understand or necessarily agree with.
I think we are all guilty of this in some small way, have you not ever found yourself thinking "that girls hair looks terrible" or "that fellas shirt is hideous".
For people to come out and make negative or insulting comments is wrong, but as long as a person is comfortable with their own identity, that should be all that matters.

My mother always told me, " If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. " Maybe a few other people's mothers should have said this to their children, then they might save their stupid comments.
I have three tattoos, most people wouldn't know I have them as they are own my legs, but if I wear shorts, I get a lot of smartass comments and interesting glances.

as a hr representative, i have to be bias against people with tattoos because, though (obviously) the tattoos doesn't effect your intellegence, it DOES change the look of the company. People with visible tattoos are INSTANTLY placed at the bottom of the list, and thats just a fact......not saying that ppl with visble tats dont have good jobs or anything; its just that at my place of work, my boss (head of hr) pretty much will overlook a canidate because of their personal body artwork. So I have come to believe that, though tattoos are fine for those who want them.....having visible ones just must make it difficult to find corporate jobs due to the bias at some companies.

Because deep down, they secretly want to be tattooed. They are just looking for the nerve to get to the shop.
