We do as we are told.

The Constitution defines our government. The Forefathers didnt want the military to be able to be used as an instrument of a coup. If there were to be a coup in the US, then the military would be breaking its oath by supporting it.

If that clause were rephrased to say that "I do swear that I will support the US" or the Government, then if there was a coup, and a ne government was in place, we would be sworn to prtect that government.

By preventing a coup and protecting our government, we are protecting the Constitution.

"I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice."

This is the only portion of the oath that you even need to read to understand why our military is deployed to Iraq. Your question is slightly skewed.

Because we are stopping people mainly islamic extremist who want to take away our freedom. That is what we are fighting in the Middle East. They come to Iraq, or Afganistan from Egypt, Syria, Iran and others just to kill Americans, who want to live in peace. That is there soul purpose. We are stopping them there so we dont have to worry about them here. Its that simple
