Germany has taken on the popular phenomena of "Gelaterio's" (originating in Italy) --- or Ice Cream Parlors. These Gelateries will serve Ice Cream/ Sorbet in unique ways. Some even add alcohol to make spectacular deserts. They're kind of like an upscale Starbucks unites with dance club of Europe really.

If you’re more daring … street racing is huge in some parts of Germany.

I don't know if that is a question your teacher came up with, but that's similar to asking what's shopping/nightlife like in America?
There is quite a diversity of lifestyles in Germany. In Berlin (which I'm familiar with) there are many of the same types of things found in a large urban area in the U.S. They have a large store called the KaDeWe which is the largest retail store in Europe. There are nightclubs which stay open until the sun comes up. Most stores are closed on Sundays by law, which they are trying to get changed. There are, however, small dorfs (villages) throughout Germany in which most of the houses are hundreds of years old and have doorways barely over 6ft. since people were shorter back then. They try to preserve their culture and history and have strict building codes. I would recommend posting your question at yahoo.de clever section in English. A great deal of German people speak English and you can get a variety of answers from German people living in many different types of places.

Concerts, movies, museums - same as in the States!

Open-air bars ("Biergarten") for beer, drinks, or something small to eat; bars and restaurants of many ethnicities. Cafes, bakeries, tea houses (like the Tajikistan Tea House in Berlin), lounges (like the arabic lounge in Berlin, where you can order typical arabic foods and drinks, and a water pipe - with a sweet tasting tabacco just for in your mouth, not a drug), coffee shops (like Balzac) with tasty German pastries and German coffee. There are also often outdoor concerts in summer. Shopping - downtown in the pedestrian zone, like Kurfürstendamm in Berlin or Mönckebergstraße in Hamburg. Nightlife - like Kreuzberg or Prinzlauer Berg in Berlin, or the Reeperbahn or Sternschanze in Hamburg.

Shopping at many specialty stores, or big chains, or even deparment stores! There are many outdoor markets to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers (cut and plants), handcrafted items (pots, honey/honey items, teas). In Winter, you can visit the "Weihnachtsmarkt", or outdoor Christmas market, where you can buy many handcrafts and typical German foods and drinks.

Enjoy the view of the city by climbing to the top of a cathedral tower! Take a boat trip tour around the lake or on a river! Take a city bus tour!

Germany is a marvelous place with numerous theatres, museums and night spots for music. Take a look at some of the tourist sites about Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin.

Much to discover.

There are a lot of nice castles in Germany and of course shopping areas...the Heidelburg castle is nice and is in Kaiserslantern. Frankurt has some shopping areas. Darmstadt is a cute and quiet town with coffee shops, good restaurants for eating, fountains for seeing, sometimes live bands, a couple of bars...but for night life, I think Frankfort is better.
