You can not shoot a 460 S&W out of any firearm that is chambered for the 454 Casull. Its the same thing trying to load the longer .357 Mag cartriddge for a revolver designed to solely chamber the .38 Special. However if you perfer shoot heavier bullets (300 Grain or more) out of the 454 Casull, velocity between the 454 Casull and the 460 S&W are very similar. I recommend the latest Horniday Reloading Guide for more information as well.

No! The .460 Smith and Wesson is essentially the .454 Casull case strengthened and lengthed. Just like the .454 Casull case is essentially a lengthened .45 Colt case. While you can shoot .45 Colt, .454 Casull or .460 Smith and Wesson (and, heaven forbid, even .45 S&W Schofield) out of the Smith and Wesson .460 revolver, you cannot shoot .460 S&W out of a Ruger or any other .454 Casull gun . . . the .460 S&W is too long to chamber in those guns.

no don't do it the 460 has too much pressure besides the 454 case is 1.36" and the 460 is 1.8 it probably won't fit

The correct answer is Yes you can. Rugers are famously overbuilt. example; A gunwriter tested a Ruger Old Army .45 cap and ball revolver. It normally is used with lower power black powder. The writer was purposely trying to blow the gun up. He loaded (hard packed) the hottest modern smokeless powder and the bullets (round balls of lead) could barely seat all the way in. The gun performed flawlessly and wasn't hurt at all. The Super Redhawk is built like an Army tank! It will be fine to shoot the fast .460 in it with no problems at all. It is a .45 cal. bullet so it's a go. Blast away.
