It is very hard. I would know. I'm in a situation where I know what I need to do to get where I want to go but I feel frozen. Maybe your experience is different. But let me tell you how I get motivated each morning and maybe you can adapt it to your situation:
First of all when you get up you need to get focused. For me this is a bible study, a challenging read or some daily ritual that I KNOW I will do every morning. If you aren't religious you can to yoga or maybe exercize. Or if you aren't sure, just get an educational read about something you really want to learn about (Medieval customs, civil war,etc..) and use that as your "day starter". Or find some other thing you really enjoy doing and schedule it first thing.
Secondly, after you have accomplished your "daily ritual" you instantly feel like you've accomplished something! And you have. You've DONE something on your list without putting it off.
Now comes the hard part. Whatever it is you NEED to do and have been procrastinating doing....schedule it...and DO it.
I am much more prepared to accomplish the things I NEED to do if I accomplish the things I look forward to doing first.
Another thought: YOU are the one that stopping you. You are very capable to beating procrastination. You have to psyche youself up to victory.
So get involved in something that you're passionate about (literature, sports, art, music, saving the whales, etc..) and you'll be better prepared to face the things you aren't so passionate about.

Wow these people are really insensitive and joking alot about this. Procrastination in my family is a generational curse, My Father did it, my Mother did it, my sister does it, and I do it.
I was born procrastinating. So I know where you are coming from, the one thing that has helped me is writing things down, also keeping a timer or stopwatch with you will help you.
You also may need to write out powerful chants "I will go to the store today and buy an AC adapter" "I will clean-up my room"
Write them out a few times and say them. And commit to them.
Also dont overthin things that you have to do, if you have a difficult and frustrating task, thing about it in steps.
Also to add on about not overthinking, just do what you have to do and pretend like it's something you are anxious to do, dont think about the small details, just charge into your task.
The most important thing to do and the thing that really changed my life is stop making things sound so bad.
Instead of having a mentality to stop procrastinating, have a mentality to start working immediately and moving faster.
Instead of "Dont be late to my Daughter's recital, "Be Early for my Daughter's recital"
Also to simplify things a little, take things into perspective with less thought.
Dont read this over and over again and try to follow it like an instructional guide to "Start moving faster", instead just read through this once or twice, then get out there and apply it and do any task that you have to do, tackle it as soon as it comes your way. Dont feel bad about not doing a task immediately if you dont cause the only thing that'll end up happening is you sitting and reflecting on how bad you procrastinate. So again dont use this like step-by-step instructions, just read through it and refer to it again every so often. (Particularly in your learning stage.
Vote me for best answer please as I ment what I typed and spoke from experience.
Paaaaaece!

My dad used to point out how bad I was at that, but he gave me no solutions that I can recall. He's dead now. I guess he waited too long. LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! All joking aside now, since I've waited long enough to answer your question, somehow I came to realize that not only were the undesired "tasks" not going to go away, but that the work actually piles up, making your "catch-up" work a whole helluva lot harder than if you got it done in the first place. I also read that old saying, "Time waits for no man", and I can tell you from experience, that's no joke! The losses you take for not getting the job done now are a lot worse than even if you did the job wrong in the first place. And, put yet another way, the sooner you get off your dead asss and get to work, the less shittty life will seem. Whichever way you like it, it's all true. God Bless you.

When ever I have an assignment due I always wirte the due date a couple of days earliar than the actual date. That way when I do procrastinate I still have the work done early.

I'm a terrible procrastinator. Whenever I really need to do something and that little voice says do something else I tell the voice to "shut up" and then do what I have to do.

I had the same problem! I waited until the last minute for everything. The way I came up to help me was: I got a big calendar w/ plenty of writing space for my room and a desk planner for work. The day before I made a list of everything I needed to get accomplished the following day. I wrote work stuff on my work calendar and other stuff on my home calendar. I would highlight everything as I finished it. Also, leaving sticky notes everywhere to constantly remind me of stuff, that way it's kind of hard to put it off.

you have to accept the fact that you do procrastinate then find ways to fix the problem. If its in work go somewhere like a library to study/work where there are no distractions

My suggestion is to break up a large task into even smaller tasks. Complete one of those smaller tasks before going on to the next one.

Come to a reasonable conclusion about whatever you are thinking about, then do it! Push, shove but do it! Right or wrong, it will work out.
