Totally, 100%, safe.
Ammoxicillin is an artificial penicillin. It does not harm you in any way - the only downside of age is that the antibacterial strength may weaken. But last June? They'll be as good as new

WHOA!
You don't take prescription antibiotics for "symptoms of a strep throat".
You take it if you have strep throat. AFter a postive throat culture by the doctor.
And why is it left over? Usually when I get a prescription for that you are supposed to take it until it is all gone. What he has there probably isn't enough for a full treatment and it is very important to take a full treatment. Otherwise he'll just kill off some of the bugs and leave behind the ones that are a bit more resistant and then he'll pass a whopper of a strep infection on to you.
As for the drug, ammoxicillin is one of the cheapest drugs around. Probably about $4 or $5 for a prescription if he really does need it.

Shady Sam has the scoop. In lieu of nothing, you bet it's safe and effective. Have him take it until it's all gone. Don't skip doses. If your friend doesn't improve in two days, though, present to an ER, ok? Strep can get nastier than a sore throat. Damn the bills at that point. Also, cold call physician's offices, especially pediatricians. Pharmaceutical sales people leave GOBS of free samples of anit-biotics that a physician's office oftentimes gives away if you'd drop by and ask a nurse. RN

Penicillins are drugs that need to be discarded because they lose potency and a half treated infection can flare up and become resistant to treatment. It's why you are to use up the prescribed amount of meds and not discontinue as soon as you start feeling better.

I think older medicines just lose their strength, so it might not work as grat. However, he really should get checked by a dr. as he might NOT have strep throat, and might be taking something that is the wrong medicine.

My guess is that it would be perfectly safe..
The only thing in question would be its potency and
I believe that too should be fine...

It probably won't kill him, but its medicinal value decreases as it gets older.
