You can use a wax or pomade, but if the curls are strong that won't help too much.
You can also use a straightening iron, pretty much the opposite of a curling iron - will flatten your hair, but you might want to use mousse or hairspray after that to keep it that way.
If those suggestions don't work (i.e. if your hair is too curly), you may want to consider getting a (straight) perm or getting your hair professionally straightened.
Good luck!

I have curly hair too and always have this problem. I've found that brushing it out a lot while still wet helps, and I use mousse to keep it in place. But the only thing that really loosened up my curl was going to the salon and have them use a mild relaxer on it.

i had exactly the same problem except my hair's frizy too, until i started using classic fx shampoo and conditioner every 2-3 days and their treatment once a week. after washing i towel dry my hair as much as i can then brush and repeat then i put it up with chopsticks or a clip. since i started using classic fx i've been able to sleep with my hair down which i never could do before as i'd wake up with it all in knots, not anymore!! also before getting out the shower run cold water through your hair for at least 10 seconds it leaves it feeling smoother and looking shinier, try not to brush your hair too much before it dries as it will give you split ends.

Bed Head ,Tigi,Ego Boost . This is by far the greatest leave in conditioner for curly hair. Make hair easy to comb and style and leaves braids in place without flyaways or strays.

apply straightening cream and blow dry down to straighten it out then straighten with a hot iron. If you want to keep it curly then use some gel and try scrunching it while it drys. I dont know if that will work but its worth a shot.

me too! i like having curly hair, yet i hate the way you cant basically awaken and walk out of the homestead with it. i exploit gel, its referred to as got2b, its in a pink bottle at walmart, extremely low-priced and basically run it by potential of your hair yet im attempting to hit upon a more effective powerful one, because it makes your hair so troublesome and crunchy =/
