Because people use religion as an excuse to exercise their hatred and bigotry. It is a way to be evil but not responsible for their views and actions.
It is illegal in the UK now to discriminate on these grounds and I for one am looking forward to seeing these ignorant people prosecuted and punished for their crimes.

Because it is something that is not permitted in our faith. Does this mean that we do not care for those that choose to follow that lifestyle? No, it just means that we do not practice it, do not condone the idea of it, and would really appreciate it if others would respect our right to think that way. Someone from the gay community is welcome in any church. It is in the joining of that church that is the problem. Why should a select group of people demand that any organization such as the church change God's word in order to meet their needs. The Holy Bible is the basis for the christian church, by asking Christians to make changes to this book is blasphemy. If someone chooses a certain life-style, they usually know in advance what the reaction will be and should be prepared for that reaction. If someone cannot obey the word of God then they do not need to seek out Christianity. It is the obedience of God's word that Christians must do. To put it simply: I do not hate anyone or their beliefs; just do not infringe on my rights with those beliefs. Do not ask me to change the basic tenet of that belief. Is this so hard to ask?

Recent scientific evidence actually supports traditional views on marriage:
"Almost every study of children's social and emotional development demonstrates that the best environment is with a married mother and father. Other children simply are at greater risk."
That's one reason. My reasons are twofold. I also believe that the Bible is an accurate and reliable source of information. So, when the Bible says in Romans among other places that we are not to exchange the natural order of things for an order that isn't natural, I believe it.
Edit: YAY one negative.. keep 'em coming.
Stop throwing the Law around... I mean, so what if we aren't supposed to muzzle an ox while it treads the grain? Christ is alive! He came to fulfill the Law. The Law doesn't matter anymore. I'm not saying it isn't important to obey the ten commandments, but the Law just isn't what it was 2,000 years ago.

The "natural" order of things is that males and females mate and make children to propagate the human race. God encourages us to follow this natural order. I also think that God is not against gay people. He loves us all EQUALLY because he made each one of us with equal love. Religions are traditionally very conservative (especially Catholicism) and change is very difficult. Priests and Popes and staunch practicing Catholics are supposed to be against homosexuality because that is the church's stance on it. I don't think you'd ever hear a priest say that a gay person will go to hell. God knows each one of us as if we were the only person in the world. He knows why we do what we do better than we know ourselves. Don't take the Bible so literally. It was written from ancient traditional stories for a much more primitive society than we have today. Don't you think that God is "up on things" in the world today?

Most mainstream religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Bhuddism) have sacred writings the adherents believe were inspired by God, and those writings condemn sexual relations within gender.
Of course, these same writings also condemn rape, murder, theft, gluttony, sloth, dishonesty, and a whole host of other behaviors which seem to be detrimental to society. This is probably why many scholars are reluctant to ignore their teachings on "one or two" issues (i.e. homosexuality, pedophilia) because to reject any part of the teachings means you can then pick and choose the convenient ones, and disregard all the others.

because religions are going along with natural law.. natural law is against actions that are not happening for a natural purpose. That is 2 people of the same sex cant naturally produce children. They believe that children should come by the feeling of love between two people etc... according to natural law the family therefore the partners) are meant to reproduce children.. that is their natural purpose.. having though 2 people of the same sex it cannot be accomplished naturally.. thats why they dont allow gay relationships and marriages.. But im not against it though :P

Fireball is the only one above who gave a sensible answer although the person following a Pagan religion that is insulted in being compared to Christianity certainly warrants some psychological scrutiny.
You can dress it up (or not) however you want it, but Fireball is right. God said that behavior shouldn't take place, just like we shouldn't murder, steal or lie either. I don't know why gay people get so worked up over this. I mean, I don't hear murderers, burglars or liars getting upset that God doesn't approve of their behaviors.

In the Bible, there are verses that are frequently interpreted as anti-gay, in both testaments. These verses don't address committed and equal relationships, but they are used against those of us in them anyway.
This said, not all religions, as has been pointed out, are homophobic. Not all Christians, Jews, or Muslims are, either. In fact, many Jews and Christians (in particular), and some of their sects, are for LGBT rights as a matter of faith.
I also believe that the desire to control others is at the root of today's religiously motivated homophobia.

Because back when religions were established, it was all about having kids. Look at whatever text you consider your "bible" and find all the injunctions about recreational sex -- No homosexual acts, no mastubation, etc. It was all about making babies, and increasing the numbers of the people following the faith.

The Christian belief is that if God intended on there being homosexual relationships then why did he in the beginning make only man and woman. Also there are several Biblical verses that refer to homosexual relationships as an abomination.

Because the Bible forbids it. God ordained marriage in the Garden of Eden and it was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Also, its homosexuality is an abomination to God, it doesn't matter what I think, it matters what He says.
