it depends on how depressed you are, where you live, if you need to be hospitalized, what kind of insurance you have and what kind of doctor you see; you can see a psychotherapist, a social worker, a priest, rabbi or a psychiatrist; each has pluses and minuses. A psychiatrist or your regular medical doctor can prescribe medication. I think the answer to your question should be what is the cost if you don't seek treatment. There are a lot of no cost or low cost options available to those with little money.
If you are depressed, it is recommended you seek help through your medical Doctor, depression is an illness that can be treated. See my referred link below.

Sometimes universities are doing studies on depression and they're pay the cost of the medication during the study. They're also might be government subsidized mental health clinics that will either cover the cost or help you with the cost by providing a sliding fee schedule.

It really depends on where you live and what type of treatment you are seeking. If you have health insurance then a visit to you primary care doc for an antidepressant perscription may be a good start. It's hard to get good mental health care if you don't have insurance where I live. There may be a county run treatment facility where you are. Typically therepy cost a lot and so do most meds if you don't have insurance.

I learned 2 years ago that after 7 years of serious depression a
HYPOACTIVE THYROID CAN CAUSE DEPRESSION.
After only one month of one pill a day I got back to normal again.
Get a simple thyroid test done.

it depends on the treatment you need for example if you need prozac or something then insurance covers most/all of it, but if you need to see a shrink or be instituitonalized insurance will only cover so much, and you have to come up with the rest
