I have gone out on some dates. A lot of women I know already seem to have boyfriends. And my guy friends either are helpless or have girlfriends and thus, hanging out with them all the time. I work full-time and go to grad school full-time. I feel like I'm missing out.

First of all forget about "dating" as you might understand it in the movies. Attraction is not about looks, financial status or how much money you're willing to spend on the woman.
Start by approaching women to open a conversation, without any intention to attract them. Keep doing this until you're comfortable in conversation and your confidence increases.
The main quality that attracts women is confidence and high status behaviour - work on self improvement and the girls will follow as naturally as night follows day.
Take a look at the many websites on seduction and the art of attraction, you'll be amazed at how quickly you'll learn.

Well it helps to ask a girl out, but first you have to meet one (or some). Go out with friends, be social... if you see a girl that you find attractive then introduce yourself. Start a conversation. If it goes well then ask her if she would like to go out some time and get her number.
Don't get over clingy with the first girl that you date... that is not what dating is about. Just relax and have fun and eventually you will date a girl that you want to be more exclusive with, if she feels the same way then you have yourself a girlfriend!

Go where the girls are. Strike up conversations with them. Ask them for their number.
Just think of it like fishing. You may need to cast your line dozens of times before you get a nibble.
