They are all good for reading and study. But, the one that helps you in your own understanding of God and your faith is the one you need to read for spiritual guidance. Someone else's preference may not be the one that helps you. May God bless you. I am grateful that you even read the word of God. Most don't bother. Your problem is a good one to have.

I'm not familiar with the Serenity Bible, but the King James Bible is written at a 12th grade reading level. The New American Standard (NASB), is at 11th grade. The New International Version (NIV), The Good News Version and the Revised Standard Version (RSV) are all on the 7th grade level, as is the New Living Translation. Hope this helps.

I like the Message for just strait reading and my dad gave me a Christian Standard Bible (just the new testament) for Christmas and I find it pretty easy to read. For studying I prefer that or the NIV (also known as the Nazarene Internal Version -- LOL)

KJV is the best for the English language. (It's grade 6 English) I think everyone is familiar with what THEE and YE mean? Geesh!
EDIT:
I stand corrected
Let's not accept the premise that the tried and true Authorized King James is somehow outdated and is to be replaced by dozens of new translations. A standard test determined the Authorized KJV reading level to be 5th grade because it contains mostly one and two-syllablic words making it one of the easiest to read. People have been getting saved by reading it for a long, long time. We know that it contains the Word of life whereby we live and grow.

I personally find the NIV the easiest to read. It's a good translation and easy for new readers of the Word. I use the NASB for study purposes as it is the closest translation to the original text while dealing with modern English.

I would go for NIV or english or american standered vertion one of the newer ones the king James tends be be old english and not so easy starting with the new testiment may be best but it is good to look up all given referances in the old testiment and read it all after.

It's a balance. Some translation are easier, but less exact and others more exact but not as easy.
Being a Greek scholar and one who has translated most of the NT from the original Greek, my recommendation is the New International Version (NIV)as a good balance.
