"the Y" is probably short for "the YMCA". It's just too much of an effort to belt out the last 3 letters, so people prefer to call it the Y. By saying that you can find them at the Y, it means they are working out (or at least sitting on the stationary bikes looking at pictures of desserts).

where a woman's legs join the hips, it looks like the shape of the letter Y some guys joke and say you can find me at the Y which is kind of a sexual comment, or it could mean they are at the local YMCA
