I live on flat ground,(mostly concereat) and have an ok sized yard and can feed and clean the dog and give it all it needs. I want a small dog, but since my mom hates dogs, it can't live inside and i know that they were meant to live inside so i was thinking of building something on the varande facing the door inside my room, where no rain and drafts can get in so the dog can come in when i really needs to. Since my mom hates them i will have a dog pen infront the door with some news papers blanckets and towels and so. So it will be alright. i dont mind grooming unless its not over 4 times a week. I dont mind brushing, cuting hair and nails, bathing and brushing teeth. I have enough money to but it special things it really needs.

P.S I heard That they had dog breed selectors so can you give me the website to one?

Thanks in advance. (I was thinking of getting a hvanese, what do you think of that for me?)

Well I would wait until your older and are out of the house. It would be extremely hard to care for a dog that lives outside all the time and your mom hates dogs. when I was a younger I wanted a dog so bad but my mom hated them too. So once I got my own house and got married I got my own dog. I would wait. I know that might be a while from now, but you'll regret it if you get a dog now. But if you were to get a dog I would get a labrodoodle or a goldendoodle, for the simple fact that they don't shed as much and most of them have a really sweet heart. Good luck on finding a dog!

well I can see your mums point, I love dogs but as I live in a flat we decided not to have one, my daughter has a golden Labrador and she is really nice, she come´s to visit every weekend ,the thing is when ever the dog leaves I have to get the hoover out . she has short hair but makes no difference she leaves a lot be hide,Small or large dogs are a lot of hard work . yes .you said you will wash it brush it. and don´t forget the bill for the vet as they get sick just like us, and the training, and the walks. 4 to five times a day , they need a lot of exercise. but if you think you can do all that oh yes forgot all the food they eat . Better get a small dog good luck, my son has 3 hamster´s and there just as good fun as good company.

Small dogs are not meant to live outside and I don't suggest that you get one. You should only get a dog if everyone who lives in the household agrees. Sorry hun. Maybe when you move out. If you MUST have a dog, get one that can live outside, like a beagle.

Here's a dog breed selector: http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselector.do

OK get a collie like a bearded collie... soooo cute! Or get an American water spaniel.

Bearded collies have long hair, but do not shed a lot, and were made for outside weather. They are awesome dogs, too!
The spaniels have shorter curly hair, very cute, but hate being without water to swim in.

From the sounds of it, you need someone small and quiet. Check your local animal shelters and rescue groups. I wouldn't keep a chihuahua, poodle or yorkie outside, they are just too small and wouldn't do well with the heat and cold. A good small sturdy dog is a beagle, they tend to be noisy though. Good luck with your search!!

what ever you do, DO NOT get a small dog like a chihuahua, yorkie or any small dog, they will not do well in the cold out side and then to come in and out like that. you will cause it to get sick. do some home work on the web and see if you can find a dog that can stand to be outside with proper shelter. please do not get a small dog.

You should get a dog that is easy to train and that is minimal work. I heard Jack Russell Terriers were really good dogs and I also heard that Rat Terriers were really good dogs both good with kids and people and they are easy to train and groom.

Papillons are great. Love them. Skipperkes would be good for an outside dog and they are also small.

Here is a great website:

Havanese are great dogs, and so are lhasa apsos. They do require some brushing and stuff, but if you keep them cut short it works out great. Hope that helps!
