I do not believe this is a dress rehearsal for an afterlife, or that we are merely marking time in an antechamber waiting for the Door to open, through which we'll be ushered into either a posthumous paradise or a dungeon of horrors.
This is our time, the only life we can truly be certain exists. Our time here is precious, so we should make the most of it.

To be the best you can be, not waste a minute, enjoy and treat the place right. If we could really come back, alot of us would not be missing our loved ones that have gone before us.

Someone beat me to it. Life is basically a test to see if you will eventually choose God or not. You have your whole lifetime to decide, but the catch is that no one knows how long that is.

to learn things we cant learn in the afterlife
to learn compassion through hate and hurt etc
those things are important on our spiritual journey .. and in spirit we dont have such pains , so we could not learn the greatness that can come from such pains
