depends on her likes.Not nothing real big and exspenive becuase shs not gonan remeber at all.Id be thinking of her sweet 16..I did at an early stage i started saving for what i knew she wanted when sshe was 10 and shes liked it more and more(BMW 6 series black converitble) took me only about 2 of those years(im wealthy)
her birthday was 5 months ago.She still loves her car.she babies it.But i personally still like my Lexus GS

You know what my daughter will be 1 in Feb. What I did was go on M&M.com and picked some ideas from there..They were great if you are creative...Also since there isn't going to be many 1 year olds get a pinata bob for apples and have a drawing contest and which ever has the best one give a prize etc...for entertainment have the kids make up your face...
