A lot of us understand where you're coming from. The god of the bible was so mired in contradictions, we freed ourselves from it. I'd enourage you to read Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris :) I can get a link for ya if ya want. Also visit www.infidels.org - lots of interesting stuff to read in their library.
You'll join the ranks of many people who thot this stuff was silly. Including Mark Twain, Einstein, Bill Gates, Carl Sagan and Clara Barton (the founder of the Red Cross)

K.. I know this might offend some people on here, but I'm going to say what I truly believe. This is what I have been taught from the time I was very young. I'm sorry if it offends anyone.
I believe that God was a human at one time. He had a father and a mother, just like we do. Think of it as a big family tree. He created us before the world was. We were his spirit children. Christ was the first born of the spirits, then it was Lucifer and then we followed after that. We also have a heavenly Mother, who helped with the creation of our spirits. I know most people think this is just crazy, but think about it. We have a mother here that helped create our bodies, right? Well, our spirit came from somewhere, why not from heaven and from God to begin with?
Anyways, God lived a life also, and He also had brothers and sisters. Like Christ said, "The son does nothing, save what he sees the Father do". So to me, it just makes sense that there would be something that God would do that we would do. Why else would we be tested and tried like we are? We have to prove ourselves, so we have the opportunity to become as God is. Just like my mom is still my mom, and now I'm a mom, so can we become like God.
I will never believe that we came from apes. If that were true, why are there still apes? wouldn't they have become extinct? Try asking an evolutionist that one. They don't like it much. Also, why haven't they found "the missing link" yet? It's missing for a reason!! We were never apes!! We were made in God's image. He has the blueprint of all of us.
Everyday that I look at the world, I know that God is real. Just look at everything. It's so beautiful, and different, no matter where you go. We each are distinct individuals with our own personalities, and each of us was made by someone who loves and cares for us more then we can ever know.

God is creator and we are His creatures.
So the law which is valid for mortal creatures like us, is not valid for the Immortal .
You are coming from absence and created and come into light by God.
Evolution theory is not a scientific fact., just a rubbish theory, unproven. They still can not explain how an eye evolved to this perfection by itself..
If you find God, you find everything & light.
If you cant find him, what is your gain & purpose then?

well...firstly, evolution is a "theory"...this means it is not 100% proven...they cannot complete link us to monkeys yet...they have just found strong similarities...
secondly...every person believes one of two things...1, everything that is randomly came into existence...all the intricate things of this life, our bodies, the ecosystem...everything that works perfectly. and they believe this all happened randomly.
the second belief is that a god created everything that is. now to me...a divine being putting everything together makes more sense than everything randomly putting itself together...its like saying that if you put a pile of bricks down, eventually they will make a house...it just doesnt make sense. now im not saying that this is proof of a specific god...but if you think about it...it just makes more logical sense that something created us...
now...to look at it from another view...evolution is a very thought out belief...but, who says that God isnt the one who has his hand on it, causing evolution to happen? the bible speaks of the 7 days of creation...but in another verse it says that Gods time is not the same as our time...so that "7 days" could have been millions of years in our time...so everything scientists say about evolution...could be true (to a point...im still not sold on the monkey thing)

I'm sure there are plenty of books outlining the history of religion. Check Amazon. Humans are unique in that we are self-aware. Although, orangutans and elephants have recently been shown to be self-aware to a point.

Yes, I understand the theory of God and I shall give you a hint about who he is, where he comes from and what our purpose may be. Why do you think God, the almighty, wants to be called by the title "Father". What does it truly mean for someone to be a "Father"? Can anyone be a Father all by themselves? Why are we his children? Do you want your children to be like you (well if its you, then like you minus your faults, if God who is perfect, then of course he wants them to become like him.) Cheers.

Read both sides. The bible and The God Delusion. You'll decide what makes sense to you.

why dont you just try to see God in the way it makes sense for you ... not from a book , not going against science ... it doesnt have to be one or the other
i struggled with this for years
i couldnt deny God i couldnt deny science ... and then realised i didnt have to
