Work as a volunteer in some organization, I guarantee you will meet lots of interesting people! There is always need of volunteers, you could try nursing homes, animal shelters, Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, just to mention as few, plus all the sports clubs. The people you meet in bars are just there because they don't have a life. Or at least, not the kind of life most people would want.

Go to sports events or join sports that are team oriented. Curling looks boring, but takes a lot of skill. Baseball or softball are huge in small towns.

Volunteer, esp at old folks homes. The people there have families to meet or are lonely as well and you can learn a lot. Volunteer at an animal shelter. Walk a dog, many people will make small talk around an animal as an ice breaker.

Go to a social (as we call them in Western Canada) and make it your goal to meet at LEAST one new person. I found small towns rotate where the social will be, so you can always meet someone new.

Good luck!

Ha ha. I moved from Calgary to a small (really small like 500) town. I had to go to the local "bar" (more like a diner cuz of the ugly lights) to meet people. What a mistake, I met them when they were drunk. Ugh.
You sound young, so I would go to socials, dances or something of that sort. Or join a sports league of some sort. The Internet is a great way of finding going ons in the your area. Or maybe find people with similar interests. Good luck.

Having lived in a succession of small cities and towns in Canada, I wish to disagree with your premise: it is indeed easy to meet interesting, sexy people in small communities in Canada, but you just have to have an open, adventurous attitude in your mind.

The kind of people who you meet in bars and nightclubs are generally not worth knowing. Better places to meet people are clubs and classes. But you have to take the first step and be genuinely friendly and open without being pushy or creepy.
