We have finally got our mini pin paper trained, and we have him in a crate and take him outside but he wont go potty. As soon as we come back in he heads for the paper. I tried the dog liter but it was awful stuff, wouldnt expect him to use it, but what about cat liter?? He is only 5 pounds.

i dont see why cat litter would help. if paper is where he goes. and knows... try moving the paper outside when you take him out, so hell still use the paper... then if this still works, eventually try removing the paper or making it smaller.

good luck

Dogs get jittery when they go into a cat litter box. The cat litter is too loose and feels funny under their feet. They dont like that feeling. If you use a cat litter box, put in there fresh sand and/or dirt from outside, and put a small plant in the corner. The more natural the actual dirt is in the box, the more likely the dog is to go in there. And the plant is great training for outdoors as well - they will be more likely to do their business near a plant outdoors.

I would put the dog paper in the litter box . That might work. I did have a friend who litter trained her pup from a very young age to go in a litter box. Although, the dog did NOT cover up his stinky poo, so it had to be scooped as soon as possible. That was the down fall, when she'd go to work, she'd come home and her apartment smelled terrible.

If he goes on the paper try putting some used paper outside for him to see and use, if you have your own yard. Or putting a sheet of paper on whatever you intend to use until he gets the idea.

My mom were given a miniature poodle from a pal who's likewise a breeder and her dogs are "clutter" educated... definite it is feasible...yet for some reason, once my mom were given the dogs, it determined now to not use the clutter field anymore... mom even employed a coach/behaviorist to go back and attempt to ascertain why the dogs end utilising the field (my mom is handicapped and would't take the dogs for walks).. She ended up having to grant away her loved poodle because it favored to apply the carpet...

dogs should not ever be exposed to kitty litter. most of the time they will eat it and it can hurt them.

Purina makes a special kind of dog litter for dogs. It is called Second Nature and they make litter boxes and litter and you can get a free dvd off of their website on how to litter-box train them.

I wouldn't think a dog would be attracted to kitty litter, but you could try it. How cool would that be not to have to take the dog outside to do his business?

i have small dogs but what i do is buy them doggie diapers...its kind of like a litter box but its basically just a padded mat. you lay it on the floor and you can either train them to go on the mat or they will be attracted by the sent on the mat. their like 10 bucks at target

I dont see why he couldn't, just don't let him eat it. If you want him to go outside, take the newspaper out with you and put it on the ground to see if he'll go. With newspaper training you're supposed to move it closer and closer to the outside so that you can phase it out. Good luck!
