I appear to be having a problem, tune the recorder in and flickering colour vertical lines are showing.
What could be causing this its visable on channel showing also on dvd playing. Somebody mention it may be the channel frequencie?

Forget about all this 'tuning in' the DVD recorder. You don't need to do that at all. Just connect the machine to the TV with a scart lead.

You don't need to tune your recorder in apart from TV channels which is done by search.
Plug the aerial lead into the recorder and make sure that you have the recorder connected to the TV by using scart leads from the recorder ( line-out ) to the AV1 ( line-in ) socket at the back of the TV set.
Tune in your TV channels on the recorder and follow the instructions in the manual. so now you can watch TV by pressing AV1 and change channels with the video remote.

Is your recorder hooked directly up to the cable or are you hooked up to the cable box?

If cable box then you can only record the channel that the cable box is on and your recorder must be set to channel 3 or 4.

If hooked directly up to the cable then make sure the dvd recorder's tuner is set for "cable" rather than "antenna"
