Bicycle is a type of card manufactorer. There are 52 cards in a deck (-1 who got shot = 51 bicycles left). The four men are the 4 kings..and 1 is shot dead because there is no "1" card in the deck, only aces.

The four men are 4 face cards (jacks or kings) from a playing cards set. 1 is dead so there are 51 cards left, and the brand of playing cards is bicycle.

four men stole 51 bicycles but when they went to divide the bicycles they got into a fight over who would get 12 bicycles and who would get 13 bicycles. When one claimed 13 bicycles the other three killed him. That left them with 17 bicycles each.
