Certain bike companies, like Trek, offer trade in programs on kid's bikes. Check with your local bike shop, but in my town, you buy the first bike and get up to 2 years to trade it back in and get up to 50% back towards the next one...which is a great program, especially for those fast growers!

it would depend on the kids favorite color. you are buying it for them to enjoy,not for them to enter a popularity contest.

Yellow, orange, or chartreuse. You want high visibility colors to make them highly visible to traffic. I think they look good, too.
