You're underneath the flight path to America/Canada
Just think. Why did the Lockerbie disaster happen? Because the plane blew up on route to America from Heathrow. They don't head west out over the Atlantic, the head north towards Iceland before loopping round and then coming back down past Newfoundland and down the east coast of Canada/America.

The shortest route across the Atlantic from the east coast of America to London airports passes very near Manchester, and that is likely what you are seeing. Transatlantic air travel has been increasing every year since 2001.

Some planes going to the west coast of America fly over the NW of England so it's probably busier than you'd imagine. Maybe we've had fewer cloudy days and that's why you can see the planes.

Just a thought, last time I flew to the usa from Holland we flew over the nw of england and then over ireland. Could be that on a clear day you can see planes coming and going from Amsterdam Airport.

Shanon center in Ireland is the one controlling flights cross the atlantic to america, so all airplanes croosing the atlantic kind of pass near there, it's the shortest flight over water to the other side of the atlantic.

I believe, it is due to the emergence of new airline companies, expecially "Low Cost Carriers" airline companies. They are a booming "group" in SouthEast Asia.
Secondly, ALOT more people can afford to fly now, so the frequency of flights will definitely increase :)

Either one of these must be in ur place that's due to which u see so many flights travelling from ur place

better they be up in the air flying than under the mud. it makes it so much easier to get around that way. travelling under the ground wastes fuel, and keeps the groundhogs awake!
