Hmm - well I'm getting one in a week on my mid-lower back but on the side - not sure if that counts or not. Reasoning - it's a portrait of my daughter looking from below my skin...don't want to get it on my stomach because I may have another baby in the future and don't want to mishapen it...lower back because - well...baby's are carried in that area when you're pregnant and the tattoo is going to look like she's coming out from my skin...and I can see it if I look in a mirror...it's more just a personal celebration in honor of my daughter. Not for showing off to everyone and their mother, just a personal tribute to my lil one.

Any tattoo is for a personal reason. Or should be. It isn't possible to say whom they get the tattoo for. Every reason is different and a stereo type (which is what saying why is) makes them less special and more "run of the mill". I don't like how they look most of the time but it's not my body!

I have a tattoo on my lower back... an ancient Buddhist protection amulet written in khmer (similar to Angelina's, but mine was done before hers). It was done when I was living in a village in Northeast Thailand and has been blessed by monks.
It is for myself. I do not need to see it to reap the benefits of having my body inscribed with this Buddhist guarantee of protection.
Given the appearance of the tattoo, its location is definitely not going to draw negative attention from guys, believe me.

It's definitely for me. I don't put a tattoo on my body for someone else. I chose the lower back because it's easier to hide especially for work and things. And no one really ever sees it!

I have a tattoo on the back of my shoulder. I almost have to break my neck to see it. I got it for myself. It is kinda like my "little secret" and it makes me feel sassy and sexy.
I think everyone has their own individual reason for getting inked.
I would not chose the lower back because I have read medical articles that indicate anesthegiologists are opting not to perform epiderals to women with lower back tattoos due to increased risk of infection.
Labor is a B*itch and I feel bad for those girls.

Different people have their tattoos placed there for different reasons.
I myself have been "tramp stamped". Mine was a tatto drawn just for me. I had it put there because of how symmetrical it is, and because of the size. It would not have worked out anywhere else... that is taking into consideration that it has to be covered up at work.
I would never have one put on me just for other people. They are permanent, and the person you wanted to look at it may not be. All of my tattoos (including future) have been picked for a very specific personal reason.

Personally I would not get a tatoo. I would probably regret it later or get a whole bunch and regret not being able to cover them up. It's like when someone writes on you with pen, but it doesn't come off. Everyone has different reasons for getting tat's. For some its to express themselves, for some it's because they were drunk, for others it's to get attention.
