I was wondering how many moms breastfed the first baby, but not second. I am considering going straight to formula or only breastfeeding the first month, when with my first I breastfed her until she was 8 months. Did this make you feel guilty??

Well I've had 4 and breastfed them all differently. I fed my 2nd for 7 months but it was pure hell so I wished I hadn't. It did make me feel kind of guilty in the end because I had tortured this poor child and me for 7 months all for the sake of "doing the right thing".

With the last two I took a different approach. I started off breastfeeding but dropped a bottle of formula in their hungry little mouths whenever it was more convenient. They didn't get "mixed up" or anything like that. My advice would be to start off breastfeeding because it helps you recover from birth and adds immune protection to the baby but to not feel guilty at all about giving him/her a bottle at your convenience. Make sure to start the bottle early. All of the mom's I know try to introduce that bottle around the 2 week period--they know that hunger is the cure for what ails them at that point and they'll try the new delivery method reasonably well. This seems to be an ideal time if you want to make sure that babe will take an occasional bottle.

At that point you and the baby will come to an agreement about what's best for both of you. For some personality combinations the bottle is best for others the breast is best.

I am considering not breastfeeding my second. I breastfed my first for 6 months and it was a great experience, but it was also very demanding on my body. My daughter is two now and she is still very demanding of me, I don't know if I will be able to breastfeed my next one which will be due in less than two months. I say, do what's right for you. Don't feel guilty because he/she will grow up as happy and healthy as the first.

I breastfed all 4 until they were almost 1 year old but you shouldn't feel guilty. You do what you need to do.

Well I'm kind of in the same fix as you.I did breast feed my first for six months and the second for only a month.Cause honestly i had no milk and i feel so guilty. If i could have breastfed for a while i would have.So if you can you should, don't deprive the baby.

I breast feed all of mine until over 1 year, however dont feel guilty, but I would at least nurse for the first 24 hours for the baby to get some culustrum, however do what is right for you & your baby. Not what people tell you to do.

My milk did not come in very well. I breast fed the 1st one for about 3-4 weeks. The 2nd one only 2 weeks. It was all I could take and no it did not make me feel guilty!

It's the other way for me... I wasn't able to breastfeed my first, and I wonder if I will for my second, and not feel guilty about my first missing out.

I bf'd my first to 6months, til I couldnt anymore - pg with my second at the same time. Bf'd my second to 15months. The first got ear infections the day he stopped, and I felt totally guilty.
Its so much healthier, easier, cheaper, the reasons go on, why would you stop if you medically could or could pump?
