I just got a new baby cockatiel and every time i play with him, my eyes get really red and puffy and itchey. even when i am just in the house, i get the same reaction. i really dont want to get rid of my bird. can i just get a shot or something?

You can try various allergy medications that are available today. Allergy shots are available but may not be in preparations with cockatiel antigens. Allergy shots are not commonly used like they once were because their questionable effectiveness. In the mean time, you can use Benadryl 25mg by mouth aka diphenhydramine which should help, but does cause sedation or sleepiness in most people. Try to wash your hands well before and after handling. I hope you get better soon.

Sorry but no! You can either take some over the counter allergy pills or just play with him till you develop an immunity. I know that sounds crazy but it really works!! I was extremely allergic to cats. but I just kept playing with them and on occasion taking a pill, and now (well I am still allergic) but I can touch the cat and play with it and not feel like I'm going to die!! If your allergic reaction is really severe, maybe you should consider getting rid of your birdie!

Hi i had injections for Hay fever they are really good only needed once every two years. The drug is called Kennolog here in the uk, if you are in the Us a doc will prob know the drug even though it will have another name.

probably. you can also take benedryl. Also - they make a spray that you spray the bird with to keep the dander down - look at your bird/pet store.

yes you can get allergy shots. they are a series of
shots over a period of two years or so.
