As has been said, it depends on what you want to do. Also, the transmission bellhousing is the same for 300 six as the 302, 351W and 351C, so you won't have to change that. For ultimate performance, you would want to go with a 351W or C. The 351C is generally better performer in stock or near stock form, as the heads are better than stock Windsor heads. On the other hand, if you just want a little more performance, the 300 can be made to fit the bill. You didn't say where you lived, or what year the truck is, so I am going to assume that you don't have emissions inspections to worry about. Crane makes some hydraulic cams for the 300 six, I ran a similar one in a Chevy six once. Also, a header and big pipe single will really help, and a 4 bbl intake with a small 4 barrel or large 2 barrel. The head on the ford 6 is much better than its Chevy counterpart, with 6 intake ports instead of three. Anyway, that should get you a pretty good boost in power, if you need more, a plate NOS system would be another way to go. It was said that these motors are cheap to rebuild, but in my experience they were notorious for wearing out the front cylinder and usually had to be bored, which incurred machine shop and piston expenses. Sometimes they wore so badly that a standard bore block had to go .060 to clean up. I recommend that if you decide to change motors, buy some old vehicle that has a good motor and bad body or wrecked, that way you can get it cheap and have all the parts you need to do the swap. You can then get rid of the hull at the junkyard. Good luck.

no. the ford 300 six is one of the best engines ever put out. you can pull and rebuild it for about $200. the heads can be replaced (rebuilt or rebuild yours) for about $80. total downtime for it should be less than 2 days. one to pull and tear down, 1 to rebuild and drop in. make sure you use good quality parts, and have a torque wrench to set torque to specs.oil all bearings and cylinders as you put it together so you don't damage it at start-up.the 351 windsor is hard to work on and the 302 is small and may be underpowered depending on the use for it.
the 300 6 is good for everyday use, gets good milage with a 1 barrel carb is easily accessed when you do tunes and has many other advantages over a v8 except for power.

Ive heard of 6's going 480,000 kms even more, an old millwright guy I know had 1.5 million on his not a joke, now why would you trade for an unreliable 351 just for power or a crappy 302 that cant pull or haul nothing but its own weight, the 300 may not be a race car but it sure as shootin sure can pull anything you throw at er, if you offroad, youll be the one pulling 351s even 460s outta the mud, guarentee that.

The motor mounts and "stands" would be distinctive. because of the fact the 240/3 hundred engine became to my understanding on no account presented interior the Torino/ Ranchero chassis i do no longer comprehend what you will ought to do to make a 300 in wonderful condition. The smaller 240( concerning to the two hundred) straight away six became presented yet solid success looking any of those for components and so a techniques as i comprehend they are incompatible with the bigger straight away sixes besides. you're able to little doubt have abunch greater subject concerns installation a 300 in spite of the undeniable fact that this is going to bolt up to your 351's transmission. I even have on no account heard of every person offering "elevate" or drop spindles to your automobile. they could exist although.

Depending on what your tryin to achieve? If you want torque ya can't beat the 300 6cyl.& if you want power I know people that have gotton up to & above 300 horsepower out of a 300 6 cyl. Stick with the six they are very easy to work on & get pretty good fuel mileage. Also if you swap a V-8 you'll have to change bell housing for the tranny.
