Since you mention Woodford and Basil hayden-let me suggest another small batch Straight Bourbon-Blanton's. This is the finest bourbon Ihave yet to try- After Jim Beam brands acquired BH, Knob Creek, Bakers and Bookers in the 90's as their Small Batch Bourbon Collection I met the disteller for Blantons at a nightclub/bar show in Vegas. All the bottles have a pewter race horse as a topper. This is smooth, very mellow lots of full flavor oak, char everything. Not to sound like a wine snob but it is excellent whisky.

Four Roses Small Batch is great. Woodford is ok. Jack Daniels is not a Bourbon.. Rockhill and Wathens are good as well.

Rebel Yell. It uses a wheated recipe (like Irish whiskey does) dating to 1849. It's the only American whiskey that is still made that way. It's lighter than the Irish stuff, and not quite as smooth, but it's smoother than any other bourbon I've ever had, and when I'm in a mood for a light whiskey, it's my first choice. If I want something heavier, I'll go Jameson (Irish).

Are you just comparing other bourbon drinkers, or are you looking for a favorite for yourself? Your tastes may not be the same as other people's and the fun is finding out what YOU like. Just as wine has many different labels, trying out different labels of any alcohol is enjoyable and leads to knowledge about what makes a good bourbon. Different parts of the U.S. have different tastes in liquor and how to drink it. Talk to someone at a liquor store about different bourbons and you'll really learn something.

Ridgemont Reserve, 12 year. Not too expensive with great taste and aroma.

I'm a Knob Creek man, myself. That smoky maple sugar gets me every time.
