Yesterday morning my cat peed in the middle of my bed... she is only 2 months old and has never peed anywhere in the house but her litterbox. Her litter box is in the laundry closet, secluded in its own corner; It is also regularly cleaned. I haven't changed her food, litter brand, or any daily routine. What might have caused her to do this?

I didn't punish her or yell at her. She was just hanging out with me while I was getting ready for work like every other morning.

She constantly sleeps or lays in my bed with me.

Occasionally, very young kittens may make a "mistake" because they just can't make it to the box in time. Kittens usually need to urinate right after waking up, after eating and after a good play session. Sometimes the need to urinate sneaks up on them and they just can't make it to the box! This can also happen if they are allowed the run of a big house or apartment and the only box they have is in a far corner.
To be safe, I'd still recommend taking kitty to the veterinary clinic to rule out infection or inflammation, but she simply may need to be confined to smaller area near her box, or provided with another litterbox or two spread out around her play zone.
Good luck!

Kudos to you for helping a stray cat out. If the cats is a male and it is not fixed, it will "spray" in your home. This is what is called "marking their territory". It could aloso be a medical issue such as kidney or urinary tract infection in which the cat should be seen by a vet(should be seen anyway to be fixed, shots, wormed). If you feel you cannot deal with the cat, please call your local animal shelter. As far as the smell goes, it is very hard to get out of a mattress. See if you can rent a steam cleaner, or blot surface as much as you can to pull liquid out, use vinigar and baking soda to mask odor. Don't rub surface, just blot. For time being maybe you should keep the cat in a laundry room until you find out what is going on. Good Luck!

She may have a UTI or she may just be mad that you were getting ready to leave her for work. We have 3 cats, 2 females and a male and everyone is fixed. My cats never pee on my stuff (stay at home mom) or my son's stuff, but they occasionally pee on my husband's stuff. He works midnights so he has a separate bedroom in the back of the house and they like to sleep with him best. They have peed on his bed or work clothes left on the bed or floor. We use OdoBan that we get from Sam's club or Out! from Wal-Mart to take all the odor out. OdoBan (I hope I spelled that correctly) is the best at removing the smell.

My cat only did this once and he had a UTI -- he did it right in front of me. I think it was his way of saying -- hey look at me something is wrong. I took him to the vet after this incident and he was nearly blocked.
Being so young I'd just recommend keeping an eye on your kitten and making sure she isn't having problems peeing. Chances are she was startled by something -- or afraid of something on the floor.

it may have been an accident, clean your sheets with vinegar and good luck with the smell, she may return because of the odor. now check her litter and make sure it's okay. if it looks soft or bloody take her to the vet at once. it may be a good idea to take her to the vet anyway because if she has an infection the pain of passing is associated with the litter box. good luck.

My cat did that when she was about that age. She had a UTI and the vet gave her some antibiotics. They told me not to feed my cat any tuna or fishy cat food bc that could cause UTIs to some cats so maybe if you feed her cat food with any fish in it, you could change.

maybe the smell of your bed covers tricked her into thinking she was in the laundry room due to the smell of the washing. Move her litter tray into a comfy open space for her. good luck

Is it possible she was upset somehow, scared or angry? Some cats when upset will pee or spray. If you were out at that time maybe she was afraud, especially so young. If this becomes frequent, take her to vet maybe, incase it's medical. Good luck.

i cant tell you why your cat peed. no one really can. it could be she smelled a different scent and decided to mark her territory. but what i can tell you is ammonia will get the smell and stain out of your bed. my male cat sprayed on my brand new mattress(because we got a dog), and ammonia took it right out. good luck, and be patient.
