...sigh.

GETTING SAVED IS A CONDITION OF THE HEART. IT'S PERSONAL. NO ONE CAN SAVE YOU.

90% of "Christians" that were told by thier parents that God is real are now ATHIESTS.

Don't you get it?

It's a choice. You are NOT indoctrinated into the body of Christ!

You can live your entire life growing up in Church and have no relationship with Christ at all!

Jesus came to save souls, not start a religion!

When I was age 6-14 I grew up in Church.

I knew all about Jesus.

I never expierienced anything with Jesus.

When I was 15, I got SAVED. Also that year, I recieved the baptism of the holy spirit. (this was at a different church)

Going to Church does NOT make you a Christian!

Living in a Christian family does NOT make you a Christian!

Talking about Jesus does NOT make you a Christian!

It's LIVING the Christian lifestyle, and believing, personally! It's a condition of the heart!

How many athiests here were raised in Church?

I would say 90% of you.

You were brainwashed FAR before the age of 15.

--------------

I hated religion as a teenager.

Doug - fact is that most people, just like YOU, believe in the religions of their parents. This is true in Egypt, Canada, New Guinea, Japan and right there in your house.

Rage against it, but it's true.

This guy doesn't sound angry; he sounds frustrated. He isn't preaching; he is simply asking you to consider the possibility that he believes because he believes and not because someone told him to. He could care less if you believe; he is just frustrated with the fact that you are so arrogant to say you can read his mind and his heart.

I know some pretty intelligent and brilliant atheists. I am sad to say that anyone attacking this guy isn't one of them. Anyone with half a brain would consider the possibility that this guy formed his own opinions in the same manner that you formed yours.

I would never say every atheist grew up in an atheist home, so why would you think that every Christian grew up in a Christian home. Wouldn't that sound foolish? Seriously, don't you think that makes you sound like a limited bunch of fools?

Sure - some Christians believe because their families introduced them to their faiths (if this is the case, nothing wrong with that; it isn't such a terrible thing to be if you actually understand what it means to be Christian and not a hypocrite).

I am always left puzzled at the responses on these questions. The logical response would be "hey guy. believe what you want, as long as you aren't harming someone. it is all good.", instead some of you go ballistic. It appears to be so important to not only NOT BELIEVE in a God, but also have everyone who is living a peaceful life not believe too. I don't get it.

You act so intellectual and deep and pretend to be original.

You know what is original? Open minded people who want to ask serious questions instead of going on the attack in this forum!

My hat goes off to all the genuinely intelligent atheists and Christians, etc. that actually make comments worth reading and attempt to be accepting. That is bloody rare.

To the rest of you, including Christians who keep saying that if you don't follow these rules or those rules you are going to hell, you require some serious education.

I feel much better.

90% of Christians that were told by their parents that God is real are now Atheists. Impossible... the % of Atheists would be more than Christianity is right now... and Christianity is near 90% of America. It's a simple truth that most people who are raised within a religion, usually stay within that religion. True, you can live your entire life going to church and claiming to be a Christian and not have any spiritual connection to it... but they may still feel like they are a Christian. You do not get to dictate to them what label they get to use for themselves. And even if they have no connection at all to the religion except by name, that does not make them an Atheist.

Sounds like the kid and his family were educated in the U.S. public school system. If you're worried, have some family time bible study at home to show him your side of the argument. Your son will come across "there is no God" a million times before he turns 18. Do your best to show him that God is very real, but as an individual he will make his own choice in the end. There's nothing wrong with giving the older boy guidelines. If the topic of religion comes up just kindly ask him to refrain from discussing religion with your son. He can learn all about that stuff when he gets into school.

Yes, I seriously believe that.

Probably 99% of Christians here were raised by parents who were Christian. Same with Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and all organized and geographically localized religions. Conversion just does not play a big role. Most conversions are between cults within the overall religion.

I do agree with you that Jesus did not come to start a religion. I only hope that you have stopped going to church to better follow his teachings.

NO! You can be lead so many things, and just being led to them doesn't mean that you are what they are. You are you, one person who holds your future in yourself, no one can make you be a certain religion. If you are not touched by the healing hands of the lord no one can tell you you are being heeled. Do you think you were saved? Did you feel different, like everything was easier. I am a chirstian, and I an not here to convert anyone, but if you truly believe and feel the lord then you should not let anyone come in your way between you and him. That is a very special bond, and if you decided not to follow it he is still waiting for you to return to him and by with his grace he will take you in his arms and embrace you.

I think a better question is, "Why are you so angry about it?" If you have a strong relationship wth God/Jesus - find your inner peace in that. Find a way to pray to God for forgiveness for those who don't see what you claim to know - but do it quietly. You only grow hate by being "holier than thou" and preaching angry to others.

The best preaching is done thru actions, not words.

"Living in a Christian family does NOT make you a Christian!"

Very true, religion was taught to me at a very young age, I didn't have time to really think about the subject so I just went along with it...plus, I was only a kid. Then I realized that it sounds like a bunch of crap so I'm now the only atheist in my family (I feel sorry for them...actually not really)

And to answer your question (I'll try to be as nice as I can): no, I don't think it's because your parents said so, I think it's because you're just plain stupid to see how the world REALLY works.

everyone is different, but when you teach someone something from infancy to adulthood, they are simply indoctrinated.

if you do not believe this, then ask yourself how long the Christian faith would last if they did not begin teaching religion untill someone was of age to make their own decisions, say around 13.

My mother is catholic and other family members were Jehovah's witness and such. at first, when your young, you fall into it, but as you get older and hopefully wiser, you make your own conscious choices. Mine was to beleive in God through the son and not be part of any religion.

ps- as most of us do, especially at the teenage years, chances are you will rebel agaisnt your parents beliefs anyway. So you do not neccessarily follow their directives.

And do you seriously think I rejected Christianity because I was deceived by your Satan?

You sound very angry.

And yes, many people are indoctrinated from a young age; and it is wrong for you to assume that those who turned away from Christianity did so because they never "had a relationship with Jesus" or weren't a "True Christian".
