The 10 Commandments were written to show how much we can't do without God's help. Nobody but Jesus was able to keep all the commandments. Usually I break at least one commandment within the first 5 minutes after I wake up.
If I could add one more it would go like this.....
11. Thou shall castrate ALL child molestors

The 10 Commandments is Old Testament and therefore doesn't count anymore. The Old Testament says to kill people who work on the sabbath -- Exodus 31:14. The Old Testament says it's okay to rape a virgin so long as you pay her father fifty shekels -- Deuteronomy 22:28-29

If these parts of the Old Testament are obsolete then so is the 10 Commandments. The Old Testament is either valid or it's not -- you can't just cherry pick the bits you like.

No. Lying is necessary for survival. Humans use verbal communication to hide from human predators and to attack human prey. Vampirism is a metaphor for this type of camouflage and social activity. The right to privacy is a support for physical and verbal camouflage.

That one commandment is logically impossible to maintain. However, societies have several techniques to insure that enough of the population adheres to the law in order to provide themselves and their society with justice and peace.

As far as other commandments, original or revealed, there is a high degree of moral and ethical relativism that may justify either obedience to, or the disregard of the ten-plus commandments.

"Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you."

Deuteronomy 4:2

The Commandments show us why we need a savior. That savior is Jesus.

"The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!" Mark 1:15

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

The ten commandments are still valid and are there so that we can know what is sin. The law of the Spirit of love and liberty fulfills them. It does not do away with them. It is a summary of the ten... Love God with all you heart, mind, soul and strength,(the first 3) and love others as you would love yourself. We can only do this by living by His Spirit, abiding in Him. It is not an addition or a justification.

No, I go the other direction and select two only to follow. That simplifies it greatly for me: "And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these" (Mark 12:29-31).

It is already impossible to constantly obey the 10 God gave us. Who in thier right mind would want to add more. Not to mention that this would be a grave sin against God, as well.

There are really only two commandments, and the first is optional because He doesn't seem to be paying attention. That leaves 'Be nice to others the way you want them to be nice to you.' Much simpler.
