I've heard "Beer before liquor you'll never be sicker, liquor then beer you're in the clear" - but what about wine & beer?

Like all things alcoholic, it's a matter of personal preference. I prefer beer before wine, if I'm going to drink both, but others may not, and in the end, it probably doesn't matter one way or the other. Just drink what you like, whenever you like!

If you're going to go and drink a bunch and get really drunk (like I like to do), then try not to drink the wine or liquor late night after the beer. I mainly drink beer but my experiences have shown that if you're already drunk (let's say off beer) then if you start hitting the wine in heavy doses, you'll be regretting it in the morning (and probably that night as well.) But if you start off with the wine and finish the night off with beer, the chances of it coming back up are significantly less. But really it all depends on what kind of a drinker you are...a light weight will probably puke either way.

Tried both and the end result depend on the amount consumed not quantity. Beer and wine are good things to drink as you need to drink more of them to get drunk. They also take more time to drink so you have less chance of miscalculating. I could put away 2 or 3 little vodkas 'n' orange in half an hour but would have to be trying hard to get drunk to do the same with beer. So with beer and wine you're less likely to slip over the edge and get too drunk instead of comfortably tipsy.

It shouldn't matter but you ought to know that the alcohol per volume is greatest for spirits and least for beer with wine in the middle but close to beer. Having said that, one typically drinks more beer than wine and more wine than spirits. Also, there are chemicals associated with each that tend to produce more or less of a hangover with vodka having the least. It is usual to drink spirits in cocktails before dinner, wine or beer with dinner, and a liqueur afterward but this is not to recommend ALL of these.

Alcohol is just that: alcohol. No matter about the size or color or kind of glass, it's all alcohol and if you drink too much, you will get high and possibly drunk. Little sayings are an effort to make drinking seem controlled and acceptable. Mixing them up will usually lead to a stomach pain along with the headache the next day. If you get drunk more than once or twice a year, you are NOT a social drinker and need to look closely at your lifestyle. Why would you drink two or more different drinks anyway?

Just an old saying that means squat. It depends on your alcohol tolerances. Weight, metabolism, age or even male or female in some instances.
