Of course you dread it: what if she hates it, what if she loves it, what if she doesn't make friends, what if she makes the wrong friends, what if the teacher doesn't like her...? There are 10,000 reasons to hover.

The good news is that loads of kids make it through their first day just fine. Moms are usually the ones who are wrecked. Remember that the teacher will have your phone number and can call you in case your daughter has a meltdown. But remember, too, that Kindergarten is a half-day deal, so she'll only be gone for 3-3.5 hours, and then she'll be back with some great stories about her new cubby, her desk, her teacher...

While she's gone, enjoy a nice long shower, get a haircut or a pedicure, eat in a nice restaurant, watch your favorite movie...in other words: you have 3-3.5 hours to yourself, maybe for the first time in a long time. Do something nice for yourself during those couple of hours. Your daughter will do fine. So will you.

I had the hardest time letting my son go that first day to kindergarten! I was pregnant with my second child and emotional as it was, add in the first day of school and I was a mess.

I started dreading that first day about a year in advance. Just thinking about it gave me anxiety.

Then the first day came, I walked him to school and later in the day when I was running errands. I thought, I'll just drive by real quick- you know a mom's anxiety, make sure the school isn't on fire or something ridiculous. Well, in florida the schools are mostly open air so you can see the classrooms. I drove by at the same time they were coming back to their room from lunch. My son started pointing and yelling "there's my mom!". I was busted!! The next morning when I walked him to school his teacher told me that most moms drive by the first day of school, but that I was the only one she ever caught in the act!

After the first few days I got over the anxiousness of sending him off to school. I started volunteering in class once a week and got to know the staff and students We had a great first year of school.

BTW, my son did go to preschool it just never bothered me like the first day of kindergarten did! It does get easier though!!

Best Wishes to you!

Yes, I cried after my daughter got on the bus for her first day of kindergarten. I was kind of excited when my son went to preschool because of the social interaction. He got on the bus okay, no tears, but about an hour and a half later I started looking for him. Then it hit me, he was at school. My baby is growing up so fast!

Of course! It is perfectly natural to feel this way. I'm sure you're worried about how your child will adapt at school, and how s/he will react to being away from home. Your feelings are completely normal. I'm sure your child isn't nearly as nervous as you are.

Yes, it's not only the kids who suffer separation anxiety. You get over it and start to enjoy the time apart. It makes the time together even better. Good luck.

My young toddlers do large and are lots greater effective waiting to look after a schedule than while they have been in public college and that they've been so burnt out on the tip of the day it can be a combat to get homework performed. no longer so now as we make the instructions authentic, interactive and exciting. yet my toddlers understand that college starts off at 11:00 on a daily basis. we decide directly to have a 7 day week and shorter days. and because we living house college whether we circulate on a visit on the weekend we take our artwork with us. I in no way found out ANY social skills in school. I basically found out ANTI social skills. a thank you to cuss, a thank you to maintain on with the croud, a thank you to be compelled into doing the incorrect component. I artwork with different homeschooling discern to have cooperative discovering. and that i join my toddlers in training and take them to parks to play with different young toddlers. I artwork difficult to place my toddlers into settings the place the different toddlers there have mom and dad who save an energetic pastime of their toddlers. by way of fact those toddlers commonly have greater effective manners and professional energetic social skills. in actuality i replaced into no longer living house schooled I went to public college and that i've got a tough time socializing with people and my daughter is homeschooled has excellant social skills and might make friends just about everywhere. All too oftentimes i'll circulate figuring out to purchase in a small save basically to locate my my daugher has talked to clerk into letteing her bag the groceries. she will and could initiate a converstation with all people. Your social skills is probably no longer regarding homeschooling. It only could be which you're naturaly shy.

I went through it with all 6 kids. It wasn't only kindergarden but every school year in elementary school. It was horrible, i cried a lot when they went, then I'd drive by school to see if I could see them.
