I took a flight coming back from Atlanta on AirTran for New Years Holiday and this lady had her son in MY AISLE seat and wanted me to sit in the spare middle seat in the next row. I told her "no, I paid for my aisle seat and I was going to sit in my aisle seat." Keep in mind she didn’t' even pay for her son's seat she just didn't want his big butt sitting on her all the way home. She threw a hissy fit and the guy behind us in the window seat decided to give up his seat for her because the flight attendant told her she had to hold him. And then the news comes out about the Toddler getting her parents kicked off the flight earlier this month because they couldn't control her and wanted a few extra minutes. They probably pre-boarded with her in the 1st place, what makes them think they can delay a plane for their personal reasons. Don't get me wrong, I love kids from a distance. Why does it seem like they want preferential treatment just because they have a child?

You are getting a imaginary high five right now.THANK YOU! I 100% agree with you on this. Its so special that almost every woman on the face of the earth can give birth to whinny pudgy little brats. Kudos to you, you paid for that seat YOU KEEP IT! Don't let them tell you to move. Ridiculous. I don't know why people feel the need to flash their baby pictures around like no one has ever shoved a goopy fleshy thing out of their vagina's before, or why they walk in the MIDDLE OF THE STREET with their strollers or why they need "special" grocery store lines, or parking spots or ANYTHING. THEY decided to have a child they get to live in the world just like everybody else does. You want a seat? PAY FOR IT. You don't want your kids begging for candy at the store? TELL THEM NO! And so help me god I have made them dodge my car while driving. There is a sidewalk dip ****. Use it.
Oh yeah and your not a b*tch- Its your money don't listen to little miss cookie. She probably plays the mommy card all the time- or she will when she has kids.

You were righteous by sticking to your position (no pun). If you paid for a particular seat on a flight then you should have it. The woman's problem with her child should have been taken care of before she got on the plane. What? Big butted kids ride in the plane for free? No matter what her cost she shouldn't have even bothered you. What was she thinking-- that she was riding the dog (Greyhound)? So I think she was being rude! I can't imagine why people in a situation like that assume they are going to get some kind of a better deal from fellow passengers after they board the plane instead of from the carrier. Was the 'son with a big butt' a toddler too? (Not that it matters.)

Wow the woman doesn't have to work or clean the house. But the thing is she signed up for this when you told her all of this. So why NOW is she complaining about it. Well the thing is for me this wouldn't work so I know me, but she married you so she shouldn't expect you to change, but you have to look at it like this. When you were telling her this she was probably thinking that you were being funny and not serious or eventually grow out of it and start being someone else. Hey it happens in a relationship from time to time and from couple to couple. The thing is I understand that you are who you are and won't change that, but compromising won't hurt either. I'mn ot saying change anything because I wouldn't you are who you are and she knew that coming in, but just compromise doing something with her after 9pm one day or something. That's all I'm saying. But nope when you marry or even date someone seriously you are saying that you are accepting this person for who and what they are. No matter what you do, say, or live. But she should have weighed out all that you were saying and see if she really wanted this or not. Now she's wanting more and well you have laid it out on the line to her that this is who you are and take it or leave it. I hope that things can work out for you two and you both won't become the new divorced people the the millions already divorced now.

I think a lot of people have come to the terms that their mis-behaving children is a normal occurance..when really, yeah, kids do act up, but a lot of GOOD parents know when to put the kid in it's place and take it away from the public eye and show the child it's incorrect behavior. Others feel that "oh people w/o kids just don't understand. They'll understand when they have kids of their own" There is no way I will understand why you want special attention b/c your kid is acting up... No ma'am.. I can guarantee that I will not allow others to be aggravated and delayed so badly b/c my kids acting up. My kid is MY Problem and noone else's.
I hate when parents of bratty kids want special attention for everything I get annoyed as well.
For example.. DO NOT expect me to take pity on you b/c it's the first time you've been to the movie theater in a while and your kid is sitting there screaming through a rated R movie. Hell NO! I didn't bring my kid to sit here and be bothered by someone else's kid.

This sounds familiar. I worked in a retail shop for awhile and had a co-worker try to take my commissioned sales because she was a mother. I'd never let her do it, which of course made me a b*tch.

Parents do have this tendency to let their kids run roughshod over everyone in sight and think they have the god-given right to do it. Just the other day I had a little girl climbing all over me and stepping on my feet at the hairdresser's, and her mother lit into ME when I told the child to stop it.

I think they do this because they know that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and because they've successfully played the Kid Card so many times that they think they're entitled to something.

It's just complacency, and bad manners. And then of course these same overbearing parents are the ones who always whine the loudest about how Society Hates Children!!!

HAHAH i agee with you. SOME parents expect special treatment becuase they have children. I am a waitress in a restaurant that doesn't encourage children, but there are still the stupid parents that bring their toddlers in for dinner at like 9pm and then get mad at me when i don't bring their children the FREE drinks fast enough. Sorry, but I am going to give better service to the group of 20's year olds that are buying drinks all night and that i know are going to tip me rather then give better service to a young couple with 4 toddlers that are demanding free drinks and desserts all night that will leave a crappy tip cause they don't realize how expensive our restaurant is.

Girl, please, you do not want to get me started. Yes parents do think they are special when they have kids with them.
I take the subway to work and if I have to listen to a child screaming their face off one more time because the parent can't control them, the mom is going to get a fist in her face.
I am so fed up with people who have strollers who are walking down the street, they will make you walk in the mud just cause they want to hog up the sidewalk. I have no patience for mothers who need an extra minute in line because their child wants a treat or expects the bus to wait for them because they have a stroller to roll up or the mom who has no consideration for the people on the subway who are on their way home from a long day at work and have to listen to a bratty snotty nose little bugger screaming their face off beacuse they want something in their moms hand and the biatch won't give it to them.

I totally agree with you sweetie. The problem is the parents not the kids. Control your child, and if you can't don't take it on a plane, to a store, or any where else for that reason. I don't mean to sound like a kid hating beast, but parents need to have better control over their children.

OK...you said no parents...but I am answering anyway. Not all parents want special treatment..but we do always ask for a bit of tolerance and understanding. That being said...the woman you encountered on the plane sounds like a totally rude and selfish woman...and probably would be whether or not she had a child. I do not think....(I know I would not)...the average parent ever behave like that...expecting someone to give up their seat that they have paid for. But...talkign about a child's "big butt" because you are upset with the parent shows your own lack of maturity. Do not insult a child for the parents actions. With a mother like the one your described..that kid is already up for some trouble.

I am a parent of two children. It was rude of the woman on the plane to want you to let her son have your seat but since you don't want to be close to children would you have been comfy sitting next to her with the child in her lap?? At some point that child would have probably tried to interact with you. Also as far as the child having a tantrum on the plane and getting kicked off kids are unpredictable. I personally would have wanted to spank my child and make him sit down but now there are so many people who want to say your abusing you child if you spank. So what are parents supposed to do? You want us to make them mind and be perfect but children aren't that way. You never know when a child at that age is going to throw a fit over something.
