I'd really like to have a perm, (just like a loose curl, not too tight) but do they damage your hair? and do many hairdressers do them still? My hair at the moment is thick and kind of wavy. Its shoulder lengh atm but im trying to grow it.

Any advice appreciated!
ta, :o)

They can damage your hair if you get them too often, or if they are not properly administered. Go to a good professional salon, and you shouldn't have a worry. But if your hair is already thick and wavy, I'm not sure you want a perm...that's what they are designed to do to your hair.

I had my hair permed once and I ended up looking like a poodle. But it was because of the kind of hair I have. I have wavy hair so do be careful and make sure the hairdresser checks out the kind of hair you have before they apply the perming lotion. By the way if you get your hair permed it will seem shorter for a while. The curls will lift it

Perms can damage your hair if not used correctly or if you don't keep them trimmed and use the proper products on them. Perms are considered "texture" products now, they add texture but not as much curl like they used, thankfully! They can be very beautiful if you have the right stylist. Just investigate and have a thorough consultation that you feel comfortable with before you do it. Finding a picture is always a GREAT idea so the stylist knows what kind of texture or curl you are aiming for. Good luck!

i suggest that if you want to have lovely perms, have it grow up atleast 4 inches below your shoulders.. also, getting a perm with thick hair might not be a very great idea, the hair might be too big for you (depends on how tall you are)..
also, having a perm might more or less damage your hair caused by 1. the perming itself 2. by the styling you'll do after you've had your hair done

Getting a pem is a big decision. You may not like it. There is no such thing as light curls when they perm your hair for curls you get tight big curls or tight little curls. Having short hair may make the perm shorten the length even more. I always thought i wanted a perm butit turns out that the older I my natural curls were better for me and easier to straighten than a perm.

I had a perm done recently just like you said loose curls and all! It didn't damage my hair and it looked quite nice. Loads of hair dressers still do them so don't worry about that and when I had it done it was thick long and wavy too! Are we twins??

I would not get a perm if I were you. They can be damaging to the hair and your hair length is too short. If you get a perm, girl you will look like a chia pet......not trying to be funny, but real. If you want to go for the curlier look, just go to shop and have them set your hair in tiny rollers. It will look just a perm and should last for a couple of days to a week. Good Luck!

Perms can only damage your hair if they are done to often. As far as I know most hairdressers still do them..mine does. I used to get perms and sounds to me like i have the same kind of hair like you do..and they worked great!

If you want a loose curl, buy a Big Curling Iron, if you don't like doing your hair every day with it, then you don't want a perm...

Plus even though it's out of date, to get one you would still need to find some Hairstylist that will not only agree to do one but knows what they are doing, to truly suit your needs...
hope that helps

Any chemical service will damage your hair to an extent but as long as you have regauler treatments it will be fine. Hairdressers do still do perms. I think it will look nice on your thick, long hair. Good luck!
