Yes this can be dangerous. The treat is tearing into the gums and you don't want that. If it gets to bad your dog's gums will hurt and maybe get infected. It also could make him stop eating all together. My advice is to take the treat from him and try to find something softer and safer for you dog. Raw hides do the same thing so you might want to think of giving him a edible treat like an all natural bone. You could also ask your vet or a pet store what they recommend.

She has probably scratched or torn her gums. My dog w/ do this when she has a large bone once in a while. Look at her mouth and make sure no tooth is broken.
I'd take it away from her for a while at least so it can heal, but toughening up the gums is good also. My vet told me that would help recede the gums so they won't get gum disease. If it is an excessive amount of blood, and doesn't stop after a minute or so, I'd take her to the vet to be safe.
I'm just glad chocolate has no bones! lol.

It is not as dangerous as others think.
Take the chew away and check the gums in 15 minutes,
if they are still bleeding, then you have a problem.
The dog's gums are soft and needs to chew more to toughen them up, try Nylabones or Kongs first as they cannot break anything off of these type of chews and her gums will gradually get stronger, then you can give the yummy ones.

How old is your dog? Do you brush her teeth on a regular basis? If she is a small dog than she may be prone to periodontal disease. You may want to get her checked out by the vet. It may be that she just scratched her gums, keep an eye on them for any infections and in the future don't give her anything that can scratch her gums like that. Most small dogs can't handle bones, even if they like the taste. Get her some dog snacks instead. Also you should be brushing her teeth on a regular basis. You can get dog tooth paste at a pet store and use a dog tooth brush or a soft child tooth brush.

hi there,
It's not dangerous and you don't need to take her to the vet. Sometimes people's gums bleed because they don't floss, and the plaque gets caught between the teeth.
I wouldn't give her a beef puff anymore. Have you tried a kong? I stuff mine with cheerios and peanut butter. I also let my dogs have a rawhide bone (with monitoring, do NOT let her swallow a lot of rawhide) to 'floss' their teeth. My 4 dogs sometimes have a little blood in their gums, but not often.
Don't let her chew for more than an hour. She will be really thirsty, and can drink more water than she needs, resulting in bloating and perhaps an accident on your carpet!
Kongs, squeaky (not fuzzy) toys, ropes, and beef bones are good. My dog likes a tennis ball to chew on as well.

Take the treat away. The treat has scratched the dogs gums and this is not normal. It is not good for the dogs gums to bleed, just as it is not a good thing for a persons gums to bleed.

YES!! They're too hard for her. Her gums have to get tougher. Keep an eye on her - only let her chew for 10 minutes or so - not until the poor thing is BLEEDING!!

I would take the toy away from her and try to distract her with a softer toy that wont break her gums to the point of bleeding
