Yes they are. I am atheist, and yeah, they make the most ethical common sense of all of them.
They are not crazy at all, they believe in evolution, they believe in repercussions for your sins, they don't believe the bull crap of 'sin is a sin', they don't believe the bull crap about rapture.
Yeah, they are the sane alternative.
And that is a lie that just Catholic priests molest, that is something which is found to be common amongst ALL areas where there are little boys, including youth group ministers, camp councillors,
boy scouts, etc.
It's sick but true, there are pervert gay child molesters in every single area where there are little boys because they SEEK those professions.
It's not that the Catholic church creates child molesters, the child molesters, because they are gay paedophiles in the first place seek out the Catholic church, especially in the past.
The paedophiles go where ever the little boys are.

Churches are only as good as the people who follow and attend them. Never judge a religion as a whole... this is how ugly stereotypes like "All Catholics are child-molesters" or "All Muslims are terrorists" are started and perpetuated.
If you want to judge by donations to the poor - perhaps look at percentages of income instead of just total $ contributed. If I have $10 and give it all to charity, but you have $20 and give $11 - are you necessarily better? There is a chapter in the Bible about a similar situation - new testament I believe.
Of course - to further compound the complexity of the issue - while the Catholic church gives a lot of money, how much time do Catholics volunteer on average? Is it better to give money or your time to help others?
Again - there is no "best religion" - only God knows that. Worship God according to your beliefs, try to make the world a better place than how you found it, and generally be the best human being you can - you find a religion with the most people doing that, that's probably the "best".

Maybe they give more to the poor but consider that the Catholic church is by far the largest Christian denomination. One estimate I heard is that half of all Christians are Catholic. I'm not sure but there may be more Catholics than Muslims.
I'm not sure that bigger is necessarily better. I was raised in the Catholic church as a child and I found it to be very legalistic and materialistic and superficial and super-judgemantal. But your mileage may vary. The Catholic church may be the best for some people.

The Catholic Church has its strengths. It has given plenty of money to the needy and it is a fact that it is one of the largest donors. Please don't forget that there is more opportunity to do so with larger numbers of followers.
Also, it is also one of the richest religions. The Catholic Church is very wealthy and can afford to do so. It would be horrible if the vatican didn't give. I won't take away from the fact that it gives plenty of money but the efforts of other organizations shouldn't be forgotten.
One shouldn't forget the efforts from all the other churches and non-religious organizations that have donated and have worked hard to do so.
Christ said (and forgive me for not quoting it word for word) but that the penny of a poor person is of equal value as gold from a rich man in the eyes of God.
In other words, your $20 bucks to a good cause are equal to $2 million of Bill Gates' money;)
Peace

It is clear beyond possibility of doubt that the Roman Catholic religion as now practiced is the outgrowth of centuries of error. Human inventions have been substituted for Bible truth and practice. Intolerance and arrogance have replaced the love and kindness and tolerance that were the distinguishing qualities of the first century Christians, so that now in Roman Catholic countries Protestants and others who are sincere believers in Christ but who do not acknowledge the authority of the pope are subject to all kinds of restrictions and in some cases even forbidden to practice their religion. The distinctive attitude of the present day Roman Church was fixed largely by the Council of Trent (1545-1563), with its more than 100 anathemas or curses pronounced against all who then or in the future would dare to differ with its decisions.

I'm Catholic and I'm going to say no, the Catholic church is not the best. No one church/denomination/religion is "the best." How can one quantify a religion in such simple terms? There are things the Catholic church does well and there are areas where there is A LOT of improvement needed.

Atheism is also a religion and the government gives more to the poor ie welfare, housing, food stamps, SSI, WIC, fuel assistance than the Catholic church ever will.
No, the Catholic church is not the best. The Atheist Church is the best if this is how you are judgeing best churches.

The Church which speaks of the Truth of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit - The Holy Trinity, and holds that the Holy Bible is the True Living Word of God is the "best" church.
Giving to the poor is good, doing good deeds is good, but that is not what it is all about. It's about growing in a deep and loving relationship with the Lord and treating your fellow man with love and with a servant's heart.

No. I know they have formal charities set up (Catholic Relief, Catholic Charities), but does mean the are "best"? Like every organized religion, they have more than their fair share of problems. It's really an argument that Christians need not have. If we are all united in our love of Christ, our devotion to allowing God to lead our lives and our desire to spread His word, we need to focus on that. Debating who is best is only a distraction from important issues at hand.

In my opinion everyone has there own belief system, however every religion looks up to one superior being. Now with my experiences with the catholic church i would say no they are not the best. There is not one religion in my mind that is superior over any other.
