You can try over the counter stuff, but it usually wears off. Go see your dentist and he can prescribe a gel you can use that works great INSIDE your mouth, it stays put and won't rub off. I forget the name of it, but I get canker sores in my mouth sometimes and this stuff is the bomb.
Also, canker sores are a type of viral infection, and they pop up due to trauma OR a weak immune system. So get lots of sleep, stay hydrated, exercise and eat a healthy diet, and your canker sore breakouts will lessen.

Other then medicine that is made for such sores, you can also get baby's teething gel to put on it. This will numb it and the surrounding area so it does not drive you crazy. Change you diet.. stop eating things with citrus in it or sweets (esp. chocolate). Use a mouthwash that kills bacteria. Try not to play with it, that will slow down the healing process. Continue to do Yahoo Answers as a distraction, that way will not think about it.

Zilactin B is great. It is over the counter. You should find it with the oral care stuff. It burns when you put it on but it works!
